dc.description.abstract | Celebrations, ceremonies, festivals and related practices are effective tools in shaping and maintaining cultural life. One of them, Hidirellez, contributes to the cultural accumulation with the new meanings it has gained on the basis of common sharing over the centuries and is kept alive. The themes of Hidirellez celebrations such as sharing, helping poor people, wishing for abundance, unity and being in a harmony, having fun together and playing games, having competitions, which are gradually decreasing today but which will be felt very clearly in the future, are preserved. Hidirellez, which has its counterpart both in the Turkish world and in various cultures with different names (St. George, Aya Yorgi), is celebrated with a rich content in Sinop. In the region, Hidirellez has continued its existence by combining with new vehicles in changing living conditions. The fact that the districts and villages of Sinop have unique geographical and cultural characteristics is also reflected in the structure and content of the Hidirellez celebrations, and many different practices and customs have emerged within this framework. In this study, it has been tried to determine what are the factors affecting this powerful structure of Hidirellez, which has been carried out in Sinop for centuries; In this context, it was evaluated Hidirellez was celebrated by whom, in what places, in which contextual framework and with what content. Since 2015, data on Hidirellez celebrations have been collected during field research in Sinop and its districts. During the compilation studies, interviews and observation methods were used; audio and video recordings were obtained. In order to provide a comprehensive perspective, the celebrations of Hidirellez both in the center of Sinop and in its districts are discussed. Bektas Aga village was taken as a basis for the evaluations of the Sinop center. Celebrations are held in this village, which is close to the city. The Sinop districts included in the study are Turkeli, Ayancik, Gerze, Boyabat. The factors affecting the continuation of Hidirellez in these regions are discussed. The first of these factors is that the venues used for the Hidirellez celebrations have been shaped according to the changing needs and expectations over time. Because the venue of Hidirellez celebrations is as important as its applications. The value attributed to the spaces, their applications and narratives have a large place in the content of Hidirellez. Another factor is, the celebrations are supported by municipalities, headmans and sometimes by various associations. In this context, organizing fairs and wrestling competitions provides financial income to the region. Another remarkable feature of Sinop Hidirellez celebrations is that it is celebrated on several different days. Small changes regarding the time of the celebrations enabled Hidirellez to spread over a wider period of time, the emergence of more organizations, and each of them being called by different names. Kurtbogan Day, Hak Khidr Day, making tombs, kacak naynasi are the names given to these days and their traditional practices. This diversity of Hidirellez celebrations is an expression of loyalty to this day in the region, but it is another factor that is effective in keeping it alive. In addition to these, another feature that emerges in being sustainable is the active role of those who preserve and transmit traditional knowledge in the celebrations. In addition, the main factor in sustainability is the active role of those who protect and transmit traditional knowledge in celebrations. According to the results obtained from observations and interviews, it is mostly the women of the region who ensure the protection of information about Hidirellez, maintaining the customs and practices of the day, and maintaining and communicating verbal expressions. These factors that have been mentioned for Hidirellez celebrations in Sinop to acquire original qualities. Reshaping the Hidirellez celebrations, which are moving away from the city centers, and trying to include them in the city culture, will enable Hidirellez to be a significant value for future generations. In this way, the aspect of Hidirellez celebrations, which is open to transformation, enabling diversity of expression, will also enable inter- communal harmony at local, national and international level. | |
