Her iki bakış açısına sahip öğrenciler on üç cümle üzerinde hemfikir iken 18 cümle hakkında farklı fikirde oldukları görülmüştür.
In the light of scientific information, complex, open-ended, dilemma-generating and important issues such as cloning, stem cell, genome project, global warming, alternative fuels, GMO (Genetically Modified Organisms), organ donation, power plants are defined as socioscientific issues. Such scientific issues have become the topics discussed in the society, and no common decision has been made on these issues. Many researchers have emphasized the importance of students' decision-making and reasoning skills in SSI in order to be scientifically literate. In this study, it was aimed to examine the perspectives of eighth-grade secondary school students about power plants. Q method is essential in research. Q method is a method that aims to reveal the differences and commonality of these perspectives, and their positions relative to each other holistically, by examining the self-referenced perspectives of individuals. In the 2019-2020 academic year, 19 (11 girls, 8 boys) eighth-grader students of a public school located in the Central district of Sinop province take part as participants. In the study, 35 Q statements created by the researcher were presented to the participants due to the limited literature. For each power plant (hydroelectric, thermal, wind, geothermal and nuclear) 35 Q statements have been reached in accordance with the dimensions of sociology/culture, environment, economy, science, technology, ethics and risk. Participants created individual Q-sorts using these statements and the sorts were analyzed with the PQMethod 2.35 program. It was found that middle school eighth-grade students have two perspectives on power plants: "economy-oriented" and "science and technology-oriented". Seven statements that came to the forefront with some aspects were also used as interview questions, these sentences were directed to the participants as open-ended, and the students' opinions about these sentences were tried to be examined in depth. As a result of the research, it was seen that thirteen of the participants were "economy-oriented" and six of them were "science and technology-oriented". While students with both perspectives agreed on thirteen sentences, it was seen that they had different opinions about 18 sentences.
