Aerosols that influence many factors from climatic conditions to human health are mixed with the atmosphere because of natural processes or human activities. This study focuses on a total of 292 days of Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer uncertainty and 0.55 µm data between January 1, 2019 and April 19, 2021 when aerosol optical depth images can be taken. March 15, 2020 was considered as the turning point for the pandemics which the effects started to be felt seriously in Turkey. The data was analyzed for two periods of time as before the Covid-19 pandemic and during the pandemic. The region of the study involves Karabük and Karadeniz Eregli where they are among the important industrial cities of Turkey while the scope involves the effect of the pandemic on aerosol optical depth. The purpose is to reveal the effect of pandemics on the aerosol optical depth. It has been determined that there is a seasonal cycle in the general uncertainty aerosol optical depth values. The Uncertainty aerosol optical depth is higher in Karabük than in Eregli on the general average both before the Covid 19 pandemics and during the pandemics. In addition, both locations had a decrease in aerosol optical depth values for the 149-day period during the pandemics compared to the 143-day period before the pandemics. The decrease in 0.55 µm aerosol optical depth and the uncertainty data during pandemics draw attention. Furthermore, the rate of reduction increases. When the particulate matter 10 values taken from Karabük Kardemir 1 station are compared with the analysis, there is a similarity in terms of the seasonal cycle, while the highest values occur in late autumn and early winter. With the pandemics, there was a significant decrease of 32% in the amount of particulate matter 10. The remarkable decrease is attributed to the great impact of the slowdown in human activities, including industries.
