Özet
Offshore shipping was used at the point of transportation of raw materials and finished goods in the Anatolian and Mesopotamian geography in the 2nd millennium BC. It is seen in ancient texts that one of the most important state policies of the Hittites, who established a state in Anatolia with Boğazköy (Hattuša) as the center, and gathered other states in the region under their sovereignty, was the goal of reaching to sea. From this point, the place of maritime transportation in the ancient world can be understood. This transportation, which was generally carried out by following the coastline, was not carried out for commercial purposes only. As we learn from ancient texts, in times of famine, states provided each other with ships of food aid. As can be seen from the cargo of the Uluburun Shipwreck dated to the Late Bronze Age, maritime transportation was also used for the transport of diplomatic gifts between palaces. In this study, by making use of previously written sources which have academic value and ancient texts on the subject; it has been tried to give information about the nature of Anatolian maritime and the phases it went through in the historical process.
