Özet
In this study, the effect of process parameters on surface roughness was investigated in drilling of AISI 1040 steel with electro discharge machining method (EDM) using brass electrode. Process parameters were three different discharge currents (6 A, 12 A and 24 A), three different pulse durations (12 μs, 50 μs and 100 μs) and three different electrode rotational speeds (200 rev/min, 400 rev/min and 600 rev/min). In order to examine the effect of input parameters on test results, analysis of variance (ANOVA) was employed. In addition, Taguchi's signal to noise (S/N) rate was applied so as to obtain optimal process parameters considering surface quality for micro-deep hole drilling of AISI 1040 steel. As a result of the experimental study and statistical analysis, it was seen that the most effective process parameter was found to be discharge current affecting surface roughness followed by pulse duration and electrode rotational speed. The optimal parameter combination for minimum surface roughness were 6 A discharge currents, 12 μs pulse duration and 600 rev/min rotational speed.
