dc.description.abstract | Natural disasters affect millions of people on a global scale every year. Although there are many classifications in the literature on disaster types, it is possible to evaluate disasters as sudden and continuous disasters. Disasters are categorized as nature-induced disasters and human-induced disasters according to the cause of their occurrence. Examples of natural disasters are avalanches, floods, earthquakes, droughts, cold waves, heat waves, hail, hurricanes, landslides, lightning, river floods, volcanic activities, forest fires, tornadoes, rock falls, and tornadoes. The potential of natural hazards to turn into disaster risks varies depending on the structure of the population that may be affected, sociocultural and economic values, infrastructure and building stock factors, and the geographical characteristics of the regions. Although the subject of natural disasters affecting every geography and society is broad and inclusive, it reveals the need for all disciplines to work effectively and for technological developments to be evaluated within the disaster management cycle. In this chapter, the potential of natural hazards to become natural disasters and the factors affecting this will be presented within the framework of lessons learned, and technological developments in disaster management will be evaluated. © 2025 Nova Science Publishers, Inc.
