Investigation of Health Literacy Levels of Preschool Teacher Candidates and Child Development Undergraduate and Associate Degree Students during the Pandemic Process

Özet

The aim of this study is to examine the health literacy levels of preschool teacher candidates and child development students. The sample group of the study consisted of 300 young adults who were prospective teachers studying at the Department of Early Childhood Education, Department of Child Development and associate degree students in the two-year Child Development Program at Vocational Schools. Personal Information Form and Turkey Health Literacy Scale-32 (TSOY-32) were used in the study. Google Form application was used in the data collection process. The data of the study were analyzed with SPSS 21.0 package program and Excel program. According to the findings, it was found that the health literacy levels of the participants were adequate in 13 of the 15 dimensions (total health literacy, treatment and service, understanding information in treatment and service, evaluating information, disease prevention and health promotion, accessing information in disease prevention and health promotion, understanding information, using/applying information, accessing information about health, understanding information about health, evaluating information about health, using/applying information about health). In 2 dimensions of health literacy (accessing information in treatment and services and using/applying information), it was determined that the participants were at an excellent level. In terms of health literacy levels, it was determined that the participants were at an excellent level in 2 dimensions (accessing information in treatment and service and using/applying information). The results of this research on the health literacy of the undergraduate students of the Department of Early Childhood Education, the Department of Child Development and the two-year associate degree students of Child Development demonstrated that the health literacy of the participants was at a high level.
Bu arastirmanin amaci, okul öncesi ögretmeni adaylarinin ve çocuk gelisimi ögrencilerinin saglik okuryazarlik düzeylerinin incelenmesidir. Arastirmanin örneklem grubu, Türkiye genelindeki üniversitelerin Egitim Fakültesi Temel Egitim Bölümü Okul Öncesi Egitimi ABD. bünyesinde egitim alan ögretmen adaylari, Saglik Bilimleri Fakültesi Çocuk Gelisimi Bölümü lisans ögrencileri ile Meslek Yüksekokullari bünyesindeki iki yillik Çocuk Gelisimi Programindaki ön lisans ögrencisi 300 genç yetiskinden olusmaktadir. Arastirmada, Kisisel Bilgi Formu ile Türkiye Saglik Okuryazarligi Ölçegi-32 (TSOY-32) kullanilmistir. Verilerin toplanmasi sürecinde Google Form uygulamasi kullanilmistir. Çalismanin verileri SPSS 21.0 paket programi ile Excel programinda analiz edilmistir. Bulgulara göre katilimcilarin saglik okur yazarligi düzeyleri açisindan 15 boyutun 13’ünde (toplam saglik okuryazarligi, tedavi ve hizmet, tedavi ve hizmette bilgiyi anlama, bilgiyi degerlendirme, hastaliklardan korunma ve sagligin gelistirilmesi, hastaliklardan korunma ve sagligin gelistirilmesinde bilgiye ulasma, bilgiyi anlama, bilgiyi kullanma/uygulama, saglikla ilgili bilgiye ulasma, saglikla ilgili bilgiyi anlama, saglikla ilgili bilgiyi degerlendirme, saglikla ilgili bilgiyi kullanma/uygulama boyutlarinda) yeterli düzeyde oldugu, 2’sinde (tedavi ve hizmette bilgiye ulasma ile bilgiyi killanma/uygulama) mükemmel düzeyde oldugu belirlenmistir. Okul Öncesi Egitimi ABD. ve Çocuk Gelisimi Bölümü lisans ögrencileri ile iki yillik Çocuk Gelisimi ön lisans ögrencilerinin saglik okuryazarligina iliskin yapilan bu arastirmanin sonuçlarina bakildiginda, katilimcilarin saglik okuryazarliklarinin yüksek düzeyde oldugu görülmüstür.
