In this study, the area-based change of lake surroundings and lake water areas between 1999-2021 in Ladik Lake, which is located in the Black Sea region and connected to the Ladik district of Samsun province, was evaluated by remote sensing technique. While the lake is of great importance in terms of tourism with its floating islands, it is the backbone of the district in terms of economy and irrigation. However, it is frequently stated by the local people and the public that the amount of water in Ladik Lake, which is the subject of the study, is decreasing day by day due to various reasons. In the calculation process performed with ArcGIS software, it was observed that the lake circumference decreased from 17508.40 meters to 13884.21 meters from 1999 to 2021, and the lake area decreased from 8511604.31 m2 to 6731064.82 m2. From here, it can be seen that the lake has shrunk by about 21% in the process. According to the results calculated from the satellite images, it was stated that the causes of the water decrease in Ladik Lake should be investigated immediately with all stakeholders such as the local and central government, universities and private institutions, and in this context, the mentioned reasons should be eliminated.
