Öğe ANALYSIS OF RECREATION AREAS IN CITTASLOW CITIES: GERZE EXAMPLE(Hysen MANKOLLI, 2025) Kargiglioglu, Saban; Ozer, Elif Zeynep; Karacar, Ercan; Arslan, Fatma Nur; Bicici, FıratRecreation includes events and activities that individuals participate in during their free time. These activities, which contribute to individuals to have a pleasant time, socialize and lead a healthy life, take place in recreation areas called open and closed. The facilities and conditions of these areas significantly affect people's recreation preferences. With this study, it is aimed to reveal what recreation areas Gerze, a Cittaslow city, has, its opportunities and current situation and whether it meets the needs of the local people. Within the scope of the research, the survey technique, which is one of the quantitative research methods, was used. Since it is difficult to reach the entire universe due to limitations in the research, sampling was used and in this context, the convenience sampling method, which is among the non-probability sampling methods, was used. Between 01-31 January 2025, the questionnaires made with 121 people were collected and 81 valid questionnaires were analyzed. According to the results of the research, the people of Gerze use recreation areas and the most prominent recreation areas are the sea, the beach, parks and picnic areas. While these areas are ranked positively in terms of visual aspects, plants, facilities and opportunities, and cleanliness, they stated that there are transportation, infrastructure and parking problems. While they generally described Gerze as calm, peaceful and cozy, they mentioned infrastructure problems and unemployment as negative factors. © 2025, Hysen MANKOLLI. This increased free time has led to the desire of individuals to spend their time more efficiently and with better quality. Therefore, it has become clear that the needs of individuals should be met in an appropriate manner so that they can evaluate this time correctly and effectively. This process has led to the concept of "recreation" gaining importance in order to use free time valuablely. The need for specialized and educated people in this field has increased in order to evaluate free time effectively. In order to meet this need, "Recreation Management" departments have been opened in universities and this field has become an important field of education and consultancy. The existence of this department in universities has provided individuals with information on how to evaluate their free time. The aim of this study is to contribute to the field by examining the curricula of Recreation Management departments in Turkey. As a result of the examinations, it has been determined that there are Recreation Management departments in a total of 21 faculties and colleges in 20 universities in Turkey. Although it is a department where there are master's programs in 8 different universities and doctoral programs in 5 different universities and where 109 academicians work, it is expected to develop further. © 2025, Hysen MANKOLLI. In addition to being a memory carrier of the destination region, tourist souvenirs are also known as indicators of people's tastes. Therefore, this study aims to examine tourist souvenirs and their sellers and reveal their impact and importance on destination marketing. Since Sinop has become an important tourism center for the Western Black Sea, it is a province with significant tourism potential with its remarkable nature and rich historical past. Survey technique, one of the quantitative research methods, was used in the study. In this study, the souvenir shops of Sinop province were determined and a questionnaire was applied to the tradesmen who sell souvenirs and design souvenirs. In this way, original product suggestions have been developed that include the impact of the products offered as touristic souvenirs on destination marketing, the impact and importance of the sustainability of the cultural and traditional values of the region. In this way, in this field in our country souvenir and souvenir preferences, which is a subject that has not been emphasized, are discussed. It is aimed to make a contribution to filling the gap. In addition, with this study, local managers and local people have knowledge about the preferences of tourists visiting the region and it is hoped that it will guide them in their future studies. Endemic animals and plants, cultural heritage, geographical signs, important people and events, local handicrafts, historical events and people, local beliefs, local folk songs, etc. should be utilized for diversification and sustainability of touristic souvenirs in Sinop province. Utilizing touristic souvenirs is one of the easiest and most accurate methods for promoting the region with traditional and cultural products bearing its own identity. It is seen that touristic souvenirs in the region are generally produced by the artisans themselves, and some of them buy ready-made products from intermediary companies. It is seen that they represent the region where they meet the expectations of tourists at a high rate. Because one of the touristic products that local or foreign tourists coming to our country definitely buy such as rest, food, shelter is touristic souvenirs, even if the size, quality and material are different. For this reason, the issue of touristic souvenirs is very important in terms of country promotion, association method in destination marketing and sustainability of all values that carry the regional identity of the region. This research is important since there is a limited number of similar studies on the subject of touristic souvenirs and a similar research has not been conducted in the region before. © 2025, Hysen MANKOLLI.
