One-dimensional coordination polymers with 4-(2-aminoethyl) pyridine: Synthesis, crystal structures and spectroscopic properties
(Pergamon-Elsevier Science Ltd, 2017) Karaagac, Dursun; Kurkcuoglu, Giunes Suheyla; Senyel, Mustafa; Sahin, Onur; Hokelek, Tuncer
Two new one-dimensional polymeric metal complexes, namely [Zn(NH3)(mu-4aepy)Ni(mu-CN)(CN)3](n) (1) and [Cu(H2O)(mu-4aepy)Pd(mu-CN)(CN)(3)](n) (2) [4aepy = 4-(2-aminoethyl)pyridine], were synthesized and characterized by vibrational (FT-IR and Raman) spectroscopy, single crystal X-ray diffraction, thermal and elemental analyses techniques. The complexes crystallize in the monoclinic system, P2(1/)n space group. The asymmetric units of 1 and 2 contain two M(II) ions [M = Zn(II) and Ni(II) in 1 and Cu(II) and Pd(II) in 2], four cyanide ligands, one 4aepy ligand and one coordinated ligand (ammine in 1 and aqua in 2) in a distorted tetragonal coordination geometry. The crystal structures of the complexes revealed that three cyanide groups are terminal whereas one different cyanide group behaves as bridging ligand. The most important features of the complexes are the presence of obvious M...pi [M(II) = Ni(II) or Pd(II)] interactions. The spectral and thermal analysis results also support the crystal structures of the complexes. (C) 2016 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Phosphorus-nitrogen compounds: Part 28. Syntheses, structural characterizations, antimicrobial and cytotoxic activities, and DNA interactions of new phosphazenes bearing vanillinato and pendant ferrocenyl groups
(Elsevier, 2013) Tumer, Yasemin; Asmafiliz, Nuran; Kilic, Zeynel; Hokelek, Tuncer; Koc, L. Yasemin; Acik, Leyla; Yola, Mehmet Lutfi
The gradually Cl replacement reactions of spirocyclic mono (1 and 2) and bisferrocenyl cyclotriphosphazenes (3-5) with the potassium salt of 4-hydroxy-3-methoxybenzaldehyde (potassium vanillinate) gave mono (1a-5a), geminal (gem-1b-5b), non-geminal (cis-1b, cis-5b and trans-2b-5b), tri (1c-5c) and tetra-substituted phosphazenes (1d-5d). Some phosphazenes have stereogenic P-center(s). The chirality of 4c was verified using chiral HPLC column. Electrochemical behaviors were influenced only by the number of ferrocene groups, but not the length of the amine chains and the substituent(s). The structures of the new phosphazenes were determined by FTIR, MS, H-1, C-13 and P-31 NMR, HSQC and HMBC spectral data. The solid-state structures of cis-1b and 4d were examined by single crystal X-ray diffraction techniques. The twelve phosphazene derivatives were screened for antimicrobial activity and the compounds 5a, cis-1b and 2c exhibited the highest antibacterial activity against G(+) and G(-) bacteria. In addition, it was found that overall gem-1b inhibited the growth of Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The compounds 1d, 2d and 4d were tested in HeLa cancer cell lines. Among these compounds, 2d had cytotoxic effect on HeLa cell in the first 48 h. Moreover, interactions between compounds 2a, gem-1b, gem-2b, cis-1b, 2c, 3c, 4c, 5c, 1d, 2d and 4d, and pBR322 plasmid DNA were investigated. (c) 2013 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Phosphorus-nitrogen compounds: part 30. Syntheses and structural investigations, antimicrobial and cytotoxic activities and DNA interactions of vanillinato-substituted NN or NO spirocyclic monoferrocenyl cyclotriphosphazenes
(Springer, 2015) Tumer, Yasemin; Koc, L. Yasemin; Asmafiliz, Nuran; Kilic, Zeynel; Hokelek, Tuncer; Soltanzade, Hossien; Acik, Leyla
The gradual Cl replacement reactions of NN (1-3) or NO spirocyclic monoferrocenyl cyclotriphosphazenes (4 and 5) with the potassium salt of 4-hydroxy-3-methoxybenzaldehyde (potassium vanillinate) resulted in the mono (1a-5a), geminal (gem-1b-5b), non-geminal (cis-5b and trans -1b-4b), tri (1c, 3c-5c) and tetra-vanillinato-substituted phosphazenes (1d-5d). All the phosphazene derivatives have stereogenic P-center(s), except tetra-substituted ones. The vanillinatophosphazenes have reversible voltammograms with one-electron anodic and cathodic peaks which are attributed to ferrocenyl redox probe. The structures of the new phosphazene compounds were determined by FTIR, MS, H-1, C-13{H-1} and P-31{H-1} NMR spectral data. The solid-state structure of cis -5b was examined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction techniques. In addition, the compounds were tested in HeLa cancer cell lines using MTT assay. The 12 phosphazene derivatives were screened for antimicrobial activity, and 3c was very effective against S. aureus even at 4.88 A mu M concentration, taking into account the MIC values. Besides, interactions between the phosphazenes and pBR322 plasmid DNA were also investigated. The vanillinato cyclotriphosphazenes containing pendant monoferrocenyl arms were obtained. Some of the phosphazenes were tested against HeLa cancer cells. The new phosphazenes were screened for antimicrobial activity, and interactions between the phosphazenes and pBR322 plasmid DNA were evaluated. The spectral characterizations of all the phosphazenes were presented.

Synthesis, characterization, and investigations of antimicrobial activity of benzopyrans, benzofurans and spiro[4.5]decanes
(Taylor & Francis Inc, 2018) Akpinar, Deniz E.; Ozgur (Nee Yakut), Mehtap; Aslan, Hakan; Alagoz, Oguzhan; Oktemer, Atilla; Dal, Hakan; Hokelek, Tuncer
In this study, the radical cyclization reactions of cyclic 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds (1a-c) and a, b-unsaturated alcohols (2a-d) through Mn(OAc) 3 were performed. A series of biologically interesting dihydropyrans (3-5) and dihydrofurans (6-18) were synthesized as a result of these reactions. Spiro compounds (19-20) were obtained from the reactions of 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds and (E)-2,4-diphenyl-but-3-en2-ol (2e). The unique structure of compound 19 was also confirmed by X-ray crystallography. In addition, the antibacterial activities of synthesized compounds were screened against some bacteria. Their zone diameters showed better results than some known antibiotics.

The Synthesis of New Phosphazene-Bearing Ethyl pHydroxybenzoate and Ferrocenyl Pendant Groups and their Spectroscopic and Crystallographic Characterizations
(2020) Tümer, Yasemin; Çayırbaşı, Mahmut; Şahin, Onur; Hokelek, Tuncer
This is a study of new hexachlorocyclotriphosphazene (N3P3Cl6) derivatives bearing ethylp-hydroxybenzoate and ferrocenyl pendant groups. Characterizations of the products [mono- 2, di-(geminal 3a; non-geminal transa-3b, transb-3c and cis-3d), tri- 4 and tetra- 5 substitutedphosphazene derivatives] were performed using elemental analysis and spectral methods. Thestructures of the two compounds (2 and 5) were explained by the use of X-ray diffractiontechniques.
