Öğe A phenomenological study on women's disaster experience in Türkiye(Elsevier, 2024) Gunduz, FatmaThe number and severity of disasters are rising globally, with negative effects on the physical, social, and economic spheres. According to research, men and women experience disasters differently around the world and have different coping mechanisms. With their backgrounds in disaster relief and high levels of cognitive awareness, women are recognized as strong actors. The issues that women in Turkey face during disasters must be identified in this context and proposals for effective solutions must be developed. Research is scarce, despite the literature's importance accorded to disaster and women's studies. To examine in depth the disaster experiences and lessons learned of women who faced various types of disasters (earthquake, flood, landslide, fire, epidemic, drought, and terrorist attack), nineteen women were interviewed in a virtual setting. A qualitative research method called phenomenological design was employed in the study. With the help of the MAXQDA 2020 qualitative analysis program, the research's data were analyzed. The analyses have shown that women are ill-prepared for disasters, consider disaster early warnings, have difficulty and security issues in accessing basic needs after disasters, have incorrect information about disasters and are willing to participate in disaster education, encounter social problems, and want to participate in decision-making mechanisms, and they acquire correct behavior skills after their first reflex behaviors. In order to ensure gender equality and address issues with integrated disaster management, the administration can follow the significant findings of the research. In study contributes to the field of disaster research by analyzing the experiences of women in disasters, particularly what makes them vulnerable to disasters, the impact of gender roles in disasters, their behaviors and experiences at the time of the disaster, and the actions taken to turn learned lessons into behavior.Öğe Analysis of temperature and precipitation series of Hirfanli Dam Basin by Mann Kendall, Spearman’s Rho and Innovative Trend Analysis(Murat Yakar, 2024) Gunduz, Fatma; Zeybekoglu, UtkuIn this study long-term trend analysis of precipitation and temperature series are determined in the Hirfanli dam basin of Turkey. Data is obtained from the Turkish State Meteorological Service for the period of 1968 to 2017 for Gemerek, Kayseri, Kirsehir, Nevsehir, Sivas and Zara. Mann-Kendall, Spearman's Rho and Innovative Trend Analysis are used for trend analysis with 95% confidence levels. According to the results of the temperature series upward trend were determined. The results of all methods are similar but increasing significant trends were determined by Mann Kendall and Spearman's Rho except Zara. According to the precipitation series results, with decreasing trends in Gemerek, Kirsehir, Nevsehir and Zara, increasing trends were determined in Kayseri and Sivas. The results of Mann Kendall and Spearman's Rho methods show parallelism with each other. Contrary to other methods, Innovative Trend Analysis determined a decreasing trend in Kayseri. As a result of the analysis, the trends in the precipitation series are not significant at the 95% confidence level. In addition to statistical analyzes, evaluations were made in terms of integrated disaster management for drought disaster in the basin with arid climate characteristics. © 2024, Murat Yakar. Due to the flood, Sinop-Ayanc & imath;k and Kastamonu-Bozkurt were seriously affected and experienced physical, social, and economic losses. The research aimed to reveal how individuals experiencing flood disasters received early warnings, how they behaved after the warnings, and the lessons learned by evaluating early warnings in the context of societal capacity. Phenomenological design, one of the qualitative research methods, was used in the study. Interviews were conducted with 15 individuals from the affected region. The data obtained were analyzed with the MAXQDA 2020 program. As a result of the analysis, it was determined that individuals were aware of the hazards in their province and that they knew its disaster history. On the other hand, although there were individuals who heeded the early warnings, there were also people who ignored the warnings. There were losses, deaths and injuries due to the flood disaster. It was determined that, after the lessons learned, individuals took the warnings into account and evacuated correctly. The accessibility and reliability of early warning systems to society are of vital importance for societal capacity. It is recommended that early warning systems and societal capacity be developed in disaster risk management.Öğe Disaster and gender: men's experiences during and after the earthquake(Springer, 2024) Usta, Galip; Gunduz, Fatma; Atalay, EzgiThe aim of this study is to discover how men's first reflex behaviors during earthquakes and how their coping strategies were shaped after earthquakes in T & uuml;rkiye. Phenomenological design, one of the qualitative research methods, was used in the research. The data of the research were collected through a semi-structured interview form between 25.04.2023 and 15.05.2023. The study was conducted with 12 people, based on data saturation. Interviews with the participants lasted between 30 and 75 min. Four themes were created within the scope of the study. Men participate in search and rescue operations, particularly those that require physical fortitude, and in the distribution of humanitarian aid, according to the research. In this process, men felt cold-blooded and strong. It has been observed that men take more risks and put themselves at risk due to socially burdened responsibilities and their masculine characteristics. In terms of disaster risk reduction objectives and actions, the findings obtained within the framework of the difficulties encountered by men during the earthquake, coping strategies, and the impact of gender roles can be evaluated. Therefore, it is thought that investigating gender roles in disasters is important in creating disaster management policies.Öğe Evaluation of cable car accidents and rescue operations(Cambridge Univ Press, 2024) Usta, Galip; Torpus, Kemal; Gunduz, Fatma; Atalay, Ezgi[No abstract available]Öğe Investigation of Avalanche Events Occurring in Palandöken Ski Resort(Cambridge Univ Press, 2025) Torpus, Kemal; Usta, Galip; Atalay, Ezgi; Gunduz, FatmaThe aim of the study is to examine the avalanche events that occurred in Erzurum Paland & ouml;ken Ski Resort. Paland & ouml;ken's topography makes it vulnerable to avalanches. Avalanches are the rapid and sudden flow of snow masses accumulated on slopes and are considered one of the natural disasters. Several avalanches have occurred on Paland & ouml;ken Mountain, leading to tragic results. In 1974, six people were buried under an avalanche and rescue teams were injured in a secondary avalanche. In subsequent years, avalanches died four people in 1975, one person in 1976, and eight people on Dragon Peak in 1977. In 2006, one tourist died in an avalanche on Paland & ouml;ken Mountain. The last avalanche disaster on Paland & ouml;ken Mountain, which occurred on December 21, 2024, resulted in the death of an athlete from the Kocaeli Judo National Team of the Turkish Olympic Preparation Center. Paland & ouml;ken, one of T & uuml;rkiye's leading winter tourism destinations, hosts international events but faces significant avalanche risks due to its topography. In order to reduce these risks, it is essential to establish avalanche early warning and monitoring systems, provide avalanche safety training for tourists and personnel, and implement infrastructure measures to reduce avalanche hazards.Öğe Nutritional Management of Individuals with Celiac Disease in Disasters(Cambridge Univ Press, 2025) Gunduz, Fatma; Atalay, Ezgi[No abstract available]Öğe PRECIPITATION REGIMES IN KIZILIRMAK BASIN, TURKEY(Gh Asachi Technical Univ Iasi, 2023) Zeybekoglu, Utku; Gunduz, FatmaChanging precipitation patterns and greater variations in precipitation cause flooding and flash flooding. Considering the future scenarios, it is predicted that the number and severity of floods and flood disasters will increase. The annual precipitation concentration and the temporal trend of precipitation concentration of the Kizilirmak Basin in Turkey were investigated. In addition, evaluations were made in terms of public administration against climate change and possible disasters. Precipitation Concentration Index (PCI) and Innovative Trend Analysis (ITA) were used with precipitation records for the period 1976-2017 in the Kizilirmak Basin. The results show a moderate precipitation regime at Kizilirmak Basin. According to ITA results, no significant trends were found at the 0.05 significance level. However, insignificant negative trends and positive trends were detected for PCI. It should not be forgotten that there will be changes in the frequency and severity of disasters such as floods and droughts, in which regions with irregular precipitation regimes are determined in the future. Within the scope of the modern disaster management approach, it is necessary to make preparations for reducing risks and damages and to raise awareness about disasters.Öğe The role of community pharmacists in natural disasters: Experiences from the 2023 Türkiye earthquakes(Elsevier Ireland Ltd, 2025) Dincer, Samet; Gunduz, Fatma; Atalay, Ezgi; Usta, Galip; Goktas, Sare PeceObjective: On 6 February 2023, a series of earthquakes struck the south-eastern region of T & uuml;rkiye. The aim of this research is to identify the challenges and experiences of community pharmacists who were first-degree victims of the earthquake during and after the earthquake in providing health services. Methods: Phenomenological design, one of the qualitative research methods, was used in the study. In-depth interviews were conducted with 15 individuals who were both first-degree earthquake victims and community pharmacists. Results: Qualitative data were analyzed with the MAXQDA 2020 program and three main themes were created. It was determined that community pharmacists did not prepare despite knowing about seismic hazards. Following the disaster, a number of difficulties arose, such as drug safety issues, risky behaviors, and the physical destruction of pharmacies. It was noted that some community pharmacists could not return to normal processes on the date of the research. Conclusions: Continuing pharmacy services without interruption during disasters is of global importance. Before the disaster, training should be organized for community pharmacists on their roles in disasters, medication management, and providing health care. Community pharmacists should take part in crisis management committees and contribute to drug supply chain planning. The roles of community pharmacists in risk reduction, preparedness, response, and recovery phases should be determined, and strategic actions should be developed for pre-and post-disaster periods.
