Academic Encouragement and Academic Wellbeing: Mediating Roles of Grit and Hope
(Sage Publications Inc, 2023) Okur, Sinan; Eksi, Halil; Demirci, Ibrahim; Eksi, Fusun
Academic encouragement provides opportunities for individuals to achieve their educational objectives and influences both academic satisfaction and academic self-efficacy of individuals. In this study, academic self-efficacy and academic satisfaction constitute academic wellbeing. There is a gap in the literature on which concepts of academic encouragement predict academic wellbeing. This demonstrates the originality of the research. In this direction, there are two main purposes in this study. The first of these aims is to adapt the Academic Encouragement Scale to Turkish culture. The second aim of the study is to analyze the relationship between academic encouragement, hope, grit, and academic wellbeing. Based on these two purposes, data were collected from 731 Turkish participants using the Academic Encouragement Scale, Academic Self-Efficacy Scale, Academic Satisfaction Scale, Dispositional Hope Scale, and Short Grit Scale. Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) revealed that the two-factor structure of the original scale was preserved in Turkish culture. The structural equation modeling (SEM) analysis showed that grit and hope played a mediating role in the relationship between academic encouragement and academic wellbeing. The bootstrapping analysis results confirmed the importance of indirect effects. In this context, some pedagogical implications were discussed at the end of the study, and suggestions were provided accordingly.

Character strengths and psychological vulnerability: The mediating role of resilience
(Springer, 2021) Demirci, Ibrahim; Eksi, Halil; Eksi, Fusun; Kaya, Cinar
The present study examined the relationships between character strengths and psychological resilience and psychological vulnerability. The sample consisted of 381 high school students (164 males and 217 females) ranging in age from 14 to 18 years (Mean=15.63, SD=1.12). Character Growth Index, the Brief Resilience Scale and Psychological Vulnerability Scale were used as measures to collect the data. Structural Equation Modeling and bootstrapping methods were used to examine the mediating role of psychological resilience in relationships between character strengths and psychological vulnerability. In the structural model, certain character strengths i.e. wisdom, courage, optimism, and, calmness were found to increase psychological resilience, and psychological resilience decreased psychological vulnerability. Also, psychological resilience fully mediated the relationship between the character strengths of wisdom, courage, optimism, and calmness and psychological vulnerability. The results of the bootstrapping analysis showed that the indirect effects of the character strengths of wisdom, courage, optimism, and calmness on psychological vulnerability were significant. Based on these results, we conclude that high levels of wisdom, courage, optimism and calmness accompanied by psychological resilience may lead to decreased psychological vulnerability. The theoretical and practical implications for researchers and practitioners and limitations are discussed.

Developing the Cyberostracism Scale and Examining its Psychometric Characteristics
(Springer, 2022) Hatun, Osman; Demirci, Ibrahim
This study aims to develop the Cyberostracism Scale (CS) to assess university students' perceptions of virtual social exclusion. Validity and reliability studies were carried out with 3 different groups (N = 692; %69 women). In the developing process of the scale, EFA, CFA, Item Response Theory (IRT), and criterion-related validity and reliability (Cronbach's alpha, McDonald's omega, and test-retest) analyses were used. EFA results indicated that the CS has a 3-dimensional structure (Direct Excluded, Indirect Excluded, Ignored) which explains 55.74% of the total variance. The CFA results showed that the 3-factor structure of the scale had an acceptable level of fit indices and had a measurement invariance across gender. IRT analysis showed that all items of the scale were coherent and fit with the model. The results indicated that the scale had satisfactory reliability coefficients. The cyberostracism was found to be associated with the ostracism. Results of the study show that the CS is a valid and reliable measurement tool.

Key aspects of supervision according to school counseling site supervisors in Türkiye
(Routledge Journals, Taylor & Francis Ltd, 2025) Aydogan, Mustafa; Demirci, Ibrahim
Although there is scattered effort to create and implement supervision training for school counseling site supervisors in T & uuml;rkiye, literature lacks studies focusing on school counselors' views on essential aspects of supervision with their interns. The study investigated experiences of 20 school counselors regarding key aspects of school counseling supervision. Participants exhibited three divergent viewpoints: (a) The Counselor: Fostering Self-Awareness and Motivation, (b) The Teacher: Emphasizing Modeling and Observation, and (c) The Coordinator: Establishing Hierarchy and Communicating Clear Expectations. While school counselors prioritized positive supervisory relationships, intern growth, and motivation, they required training in corrective feedback, managing confrontation, and ethical supervision practices.

Narcissism, Life Satisfaction, and Harmony: The Mediating Role of Self-Esteem and Self-Compassion
(Ani Yayincilik, 2019) Demirci, Ibrahim; Eksi, Halil; Eksi, Fusun
Purpose: The present study aims to investigate the relationships between the two distinct faces of narcissism (admiration and rivalry), the two faces of self-perception (self-esteem and self-compassion) and the two faces of one's evaluation of life ( life satisfaction and harmony in life). Research Methods: The sample of this study consists of university students (N = 381). In this study, Narcissistic Admiration and Rivalry Questionnaire, Self-compassion Scale, Self-esteem Scale, Satisfaction with Life Scale, Life Harmony in Life Scale was employed as data collection tools. The relationship between variables was investigated using Structural Equation Modeling. Results: The structural equation modeling used in this study revealed that self-esteem mediated the relationship between narcissistic admiration, harmony in life, and life satisfaction whereas self-compassion mediated the link between narcissistic rivalry, harmony in life, and life satisfaction. Implications for Research and Practice: Based on the results of this research, it is suggested that additional empirical and longitudinal studies should be conducted. as In this context, individual and group counseling practices aimed at developing self-compassion and self-esteem, increasing life harmony and life satisfaction can be organized. Conclusion: In light of the results obtained in this study, we argue that high levels of narcissistic admiration accompanied by self-esteem may lead to increased harmony in life and life satisfaction. As narcissistic rivalry increases, self-compassion, harmony in life, and life satisfaction decrease. Lower self-compassion may explain the tendency of people higher in narcissistic rivalry to report less harmony in their life and lower life satisfaction. (c) 2019 Ani Publishing Ltd. Problematic Technology Use and Well-Being in Adolescence: The Personal and Relational Effects of Technology
(Turkish Green Crescent Soc, 2020) Eksi, Fusun; Demirci, Ibrahim; Tanyeri, Hilal
The purpose of this study is to examine the relationships among self-control, problematic technology use, family harmony, self-esteem, and well-being. The sample is composed of high school students from several schools in Istanbul. The Turkish versions of the Brief Self-Control Scale, Digital Game Addiction Scale (DGAS-7), Smartphone Application-Based Addiction Scale (SABAS), Family Harmony Scale, Lifespan Self-Esteem Scale, and EPOCH Measure of Adolescent Well-Being have been used for collecting the data. IBM Statistical Package for the Social Sciences and Statistical Packages for the Analysis of Moment Structures have been used for the data analyses. Structural equation models have been created for both digital game addiction and smartphone addiction. According to the findings, self-control significantly predicts problematic technology use, and problematic technology use significantly predicts well-being through the mediation of family harmony and self-esteem. As the level of self-control increases, smartphone and digital game addictions decrease. However, as digital game and smartphone addictions increase, family harmony, self-esteem, and well-being decrease. The negative relationship between problematic technology use and well-being may be related to disruptions in family harmony and decreased self-esteem. The relationships among problematic technology use, gender, and academic achievement have also been examined. The research findings are discussed through the literature. Future recommendations based on the results have been presented for researchers and practitioners.

Psychopathy, impulsivity, and internet trolling: role of aggressive humour
(Taylor & Francis Ltd, 2023) Kurtca, Tugba Turk; Demirci, Ibrahim
The aim of this study is first to conduct the reliability and validity analyses of the Turkish adaptation of the online trolling scale. The second aim is to examine online trolling behaviour in the context of psychopathy, which is one of the personality traits of the dark triad. In the first phase, the iTroll Questionnaire was adapted to Turkish. Two hundred thirty-four university students participated in the first part of the study. At this phase, confirmatory factor analyses were conducted. Item Response Theory (IRT) analysis showed that all items of the scale were coherent and fit with the model. The results show that the scale is a reliable and valid measure. The second phase aims to investigate the mediating effect of aggressive humour on the relationship between impulsivity and iTrolling. Two hundred sixty-one adults participated in the second phase of the study. Structural equation modelling was used to examine the mediator role. The results demonstrate that aggressive humour mediates the relationship among psychopathy, impulsivity, and iTrolling. As a result, it appears critical to make trolls aware of the consequences of their actions, as impulsivity and aggressive humour contribute to trolling behaviour.
