Öğe Assessing the food safety knowledge of fast-food restaurant staff in Ankara/Turkey: some strategies from managerial approach(Inderscience Enterprises Ltd, 2018) Kaptangil, Kerem; Daskin, MustafaThe purpose of this study is to examine the food safety knowledge of foodservice staff in fast-food restaurants in a Turkish context. Data for this empirical investigation was gathered from a sample of full-time foodservice staff at the different fast-food restaurants in Ankara/Turkey. Respondents self-administered the questionnaires. The total number of 165 questionnaires was obtained in the research location. Results based on the descriptive statistics, staff works in fast food restaurants in Ankara are not knowledgeable on foodborne/food poisoning and the training rate is not at the satisfactory level. In addition, t-test result demonstrates that female respondents are more knowledgeable compared to males. This paper provides implications for managers in terms of minimising the negative effects of foodborne diseases and maximising the employees' food safety knowledge in a service setting where the food industry is increasing. Theoretically, the current study by examining the food safety knowledge of restaurant staff and providing insights into the foodborne disease in a developing touristic destination lends further contribution to the related literature.Öğe Coastal tourism development in Sinop as an emerging rural destination: A preliminary study from the residents' perspective(Escola Superior Gestao, Hotelaria & Turismo Univ Algarve, 2020) Daskin, Mustafa; Tiril, Alpay; Bozkurt, AlperThis study proposes to explore the economic, sociocultural, and environmental effects of coastal tourism development in a Turkish context. It adopts a quantitative approach and performed a random sampling technique. The survey data was collected from a sample of local people in Sinop/Turkey and total number of 252 utilizable questionnaires was gathered and analyzed through descriptive statistics. ANOVA test was also applied in order to compute the perceptional differences among demographical groups. The findings demonstrate that while majority of residents have positive perceptions in general, some agree with negative economic, sociocultural, and environmental effects of coastal tourism in the area. Specifically, they perceive that tourism raises the cost of products and services and as a result of an increase in living costs. ANOVA test shows that there were differences between educational groups in negative environmental impacts and age groups in positive economic impacts. In terms of sustainable coastal tourism, the present work procures further addition to tourism literature and also offers beneficial implications to industry practitioners.Öğe Cognitive Destination Image and Tourist Satisfaction: The Case of the Fruit Festival in Thailand(Cinturs-Research Centre Tourism Sustainability & Well-Being, 2022) Daskin, Mustafa; Asan, KubraThis research study aims to examine the association between cognitive destination image (CDI) attributes and tourist satisfaction. Data for the present research work was attained from a sample of tourists at Sisaket Fruit Festival/ Thailand. Participants self-managed the questionnaires. A total number of 110 usable questionnaires were collected in the survey context. Bootstrapping technique by Partial Least Square-PLS in conjunction with SPSS 23 was used to analyze the data. The path analyses show that the CDI attributes were found positively related to tourist satisfaction at different levels. Additionally, based on the analyses of demographic comparisons, foreign tourists were found to be more satisfied with the festival through their participation in the study was much less than the Thai tourists. Public jobholders were more satisfied compared to the private jobholders and the student participants. This study contributes to tourism literature and has helpful implications for the industry in terms of developing fruit festivals and fairs.Öğe Exploring the role of place attachment and prison museum experience on recommending intention and subjective well-being(Routledge Journals, Taylor & Francis Ltd, 2024) Asan, Kubra; Daskin, MustafaThe aim of the study is to explore the influence of prison experience and place attachment on recommend intention and subjective well-being in the context of dark tourism. A survey was conducted within the scope of Sinop Historical Prison in Sinop/Turkey. Data were collected from a total of 143 visitors using the convenience sampling technique. The collected data were analysed using Partial Least Square (PLS). According to the findings, prison experience and place attachment have significant effects on recommending intention and subjective well-being. Design/methodology/approach - In this survey, a total number of 267 usable questionnaires were personally retrieved from a sample of full-time FLEs in the research location. The hypothesized relationships were tested using hierarchical regression analysis. Findings - Results based on hierarchical regression analysis reveal that polychronicity had positive impact on service recovery performance and negative impact on role overload and work stress. Significantly, while education was found to be positively related to service recovery performance, on the other hand, age, education, and job tenure were found to be negatively related to role overload and work stress. Practical implications - This paper provides implications for managers in terms of minimizing FLEs role overload and work stress and maximizing their service recovery performance. Also, this study provides useful guidelines to implement effective management practices and improve organizational outcomes within a hotel work setting. Originality/value - Theoretically, the current study by examining the untried effects and relationships such as the effect of polychronicity on FLEs' service recovery performance and work stress lends further contribution to the tourism and hospitality management literature.Öğe SELF-EFFICACY MODEL FOR BETTER JOB OUTCOMES: AN APPROACH TO PROMOTE FEMALE EMPLOYMENT IN TURKISH HOTEL CONTEXT(Cieo, Research Center Spatial & Organizational Dynamics, 2019) Daskin, MustafaThe aim of this research is to develop and try a conceptual model that examines the impacts of work self-efficacy (SEFF) on female frontline employees' (FLEs) work-family conflict and perceived politics and at the same time a potential moderating role of tenure in a hospitality context in Turkey. In this research, a total number of 151 utilizable questionnaires were individually collected from a sample of full-time female FLEs in the survey premises. The proposed hypotheses were tested applying PLS-SEM. Findings, according to the hierarchical regression tests, reveal that SEFF made a significant negative influence on both work-family conflict and perceived politics. Findings also show that tenure buffers the effect of SEFF on these outcomes. This research procures implications for hotel organizations in terms of mitigating female FLEs' work-family conflict and politics perceptions. In addition, this research ensures effective guidelines to apply potential management practices and improve job results within a hotel job context. Theoretically, this study by exploring the untested effects and relationships such as the influence of work self-efficacy on female FLEs' work-family conflict and politics perceptions lends further contribution to the tourism and hospitality management literature. Also, the current study carried the Conservation of Resources theory to one step further.Öğe Testing a structural equation model of polychronicity Moderating role of organization mission fulfilment(Emerald Group Publishing Ltd, 2019) Daskin, MustafaPurpose - This paper aims to explore the role of ethical climate as an antecedent of polychronicity, then in turn the effect of polychronicity on frontline employees' service innovative behaviours (SIBE) and error strain and the moderating role of organizationmission fulfilment in these relationships in a hotel job context in Penang, Malaysia. Design/methodology/approach - In the current study, the data were collected from 312 frontline employees in the survey premises. A partial least square approach of the structural equation modelling technique (PLS-SEM) was used to test the associations among study variables. Findings - The study findings reveal that ethical climate had positive impact on polychronicity. Significantly, polychronicity made positive influence on SIBEs and negative influence on error strain. Organization mission fulfilment was found to boost the influence of ethical climate on polychronicity. Finally, while organization mission fulfilment was found to boost the positive influence of polychronicity on SIBEs, on the other hand, buffers the negative impact of polychronicity on error strain. Practical implications - The present study procures implications for practitioners in terms of establishing ethical climate in work environment and maximizing the frontline employees' SIBEs while minimizing error strain. In addition, this research procures valuable implications to apply efficient managerial tools and improve job results in the lodging industry context of Peninsular Malaysia. Originality/value - This study by investigating the untested associations such as the influence of polychronicity on frontline employees' SIBEs and error strain contributes to the related literature.Öğe The moderator role of COVID-19 risk perception in the impact of festival experience quality on life satisfaction(Emerald Group Publishing Ltd, 2023) Asan, Kubra; Daskin, Mustafa; Kaptangil, KeremPurposeCultural festivals have started to be held face-to-face with masks and distance measures after the gradual lifting of restrictions following the COVID-19 pandemic. On the other hand, the risk of COVID-19 transmission continues. This study aimed to test the relationship between participants' experience quality and life satisfaction and the moderator role of the COVID-19 risk perception in this relationship within the scope of the Festival on Wheels (Gezici Festival) as a cultural festival.Design/methodology/approachThe data were collected by face-to-face and online survey techniques in Ankara, Sinop and Kastamonu cities in the context of the 26th Festival on Wheels. A total of 130 questionnaires were collected, and structural equation modelling was applied to the data analysis.FindingsAccording to the findings, the experience quality with the dimensions of entertainment and escape has a significant effect on life satisfaction. On the other hand, the perceived risk of COVID-19 does not have a statistically significant effect on this relationship.Originality/valueThe results indicate that experience quality directly affects subjective life satisfaction, while the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on event experiences and outcomes has begun to disappear.Öğe The role of job satisfaction and intrinsic motivation on hygienic attitudes and behaviours in fast-food restaurants(Inst Tourism, 2019) Daskin, MustafaThis study was carried out to examine the effect of job satisfaction and intrinsic motivation as potential antecedents towards hygienic attitudes and behaviours in fast-food restaurants in a Turkish context. In this survey, a total number of 240 usable questionnaires were personally retrieved from food-handlers in the research location, Turkey. The hypothesized relationships were tested using hierarchical regression analysis. According to the findings, job satisfaction and intrinsic motivation had positive impact on hygienic attitudes and behaviours. Significantly, there is a significant gender-based difference in the perception of hygienic attitudes and behaviours. This result shows that female employees show more tendencies towards hygienic attitudes and behaviours compared to males. This paper provides implications for managers in terms of minimizing foodborne diseases and maximizing the hygienic attitudes and behaviours among food-handlers. The hypothesized relationships were tested using hierarchical regression analysis. This paper presented an integrative model to test the aforementioned effects and relationships. Findings - Polychronicity and intrinsic motivation had negative impact on work-family conflict and positive impact on SRP. Significantly, while gender was found to be positively related to work-family conflict, on the other hand, job tenure was found to be negatively related to work-family conflict. Practical implications - This paper provides implications for managers in terms of minimizing the negative effects of work-family conflict and maximizing the FLEs' SRP. Also, this study provides useful guidelines to implement effective management practices and improve organizational outcomes within the service setting of Peninsular Malaysia. Originality/value - Theoretically, the current study by examining the untried effects and relationships such as the effect of intrinsic motivation on work-family conflict, the effect of polychronicity on FLEs' work-family conflict and SRP lends further contribution to the related literature.Öğe Tourism students' career conceptions towards service industry profession: a case study from human resource perspective(Inderscience Enterprises Ltd, 2016) Daskin, MustafaThe purpose of this study is to examine the attitudes and perceptions of current undergraduate tourism and hospitality students towards careers in the industry. For this study, a sample of 132 undergraduate students from hospitality and tourism management programs in Northern Cyprus was surveyed. SPSS Version 21 was used to explore the data. Results shows that the career factor items students have concerns over include job security, pay and promotion, reasonable workload, and job-family balance offered within the industry. Surprisingly, the most alarming finding to come out of this study is that more than 40% of the tourism students are undecided and not willing to work in the industry, which means the industry lose more than one third of the qualified graduates. Implications for hospitality and tourism educators and industry employers are discussed.
