The results revealed that Zn concentrations were the highest followed by Cu; Pb and Cd being the lowest in the tissues (muscle) and organs (gonads and liver). The liver metal concentrations showed the highest values, whereas the muscle concentrations were the lowest. A comparison between the concentration of each metal found in males and females found significant differences between the sexes for all metals. The liver concentrations of Zn, Cu, Pb and Cd were in the range of 46.89-57.21, 15.96-29.51, 1.75-4.09 and 0.19-0.44 mg/kg wet weight, respectively. The gonad concentrations of Zn, Cu, Pb and Cd were in the range of 37.81-44.11, 6.66-11.32, 0.21-0.34 and 0.14-0.27 mg/kg wet weight, respectively. The muscle concentrations of Zn, Cu, Pb and Cd ranged 18.56-35.33, 1.81-6.11, 0.07-0.21 and 0.016-0.046 mg/kg wet weight, respectively. The values obtained were compared the Turkish Food Codex and Commission Regulation (EC) maximum permitted levels in food. The present study demonstrated that estimated daily and weekly intakes of selected metals via consumption of fish were below the Permissible Tolerable Daily Intake (PTDI) and Provisional Tolerable Weekly Intake (PTWI) values established by FAO/WHO.Öğe Establishing Boundary Classes for the Quality Classification of Southeastern Black Sea Using Phytoplankton Biomass(2015) Ediger, Dilek; Beken, Çolpan Polat; Feyzioğlu, A.Muzaffer; Şahin, Fatih; Tan, İbrahimBentik makro omurgasızlar, makroalg ve fitoplanktonlar Su Çerçeve Direktifinde (SÇD, 2000/60 / EC) önerilen Biyolojik Kalite Elemanları (BQE) olup, su kütlesinin ekolojik statü sınıflandırılmasında kullanılmaktadırlar. Ekolojik kalite sınıflandırılması için sadece klorofil-a nın kullanılması çok geçerli gibi görülmesede yapılan ekolojik kalite sınıflandırmasının güney doğu Karadenizin 30m den derin suları için zamansal ve mekansal açıdan güvenilir bir yaklaşım olduğu değerlendirilmiştirÖğe Evaluation of the Black Sea Land Based Sources of Pollution the Coastal Region of Turkey(The Open Marine Biology Journal, 2009) Bat, Levent; Gökkurt, Oylum; Sezgin, Murat; Üstün, Funda; Şahin, FatihThe Black Sea receives large quantities of unregulated and uncontrolled fresh water with drawl for irrigation purposes, hydro and thermal power generation and the use of coastal areas for permanent human settlements; shipping; and untreated domestic, industrial and agricultural wastes drain into the sea via the rivers or directly. In spite of this, research on the heavy metal pollution in marine biota of the Black Sea is limited. This review prepared to be informed of the urban sewage pollution loads and heavy metal concentrations of Turkish coasts of Black Sea. The urban sewages and heavy metals currently effective in Turkey coasts of the Black Sea so as to bring up the levels of land based sources of pollution with rivers and streams in the sea. The Black Sea has a special importance because of its being a sea that receives two large rivers, Kizilirmak and Yesilirmak and in this investigation we can show that Yesilirmak has higher amount of discharge then other rivers. This investigation was carried out with indicate to determine the aid of land-based sources and marine activities to the Black Sea, bringing up its present state. Total chrome and cadmium concentrations are higher then other heavy metals streams and rivers because of high amount of industrial discharges. The data presented in investigation on the heavy metal contamination of marine organisms were different depending on pollution sources, element and species. According to the evaluation of inventories, the results are rising year by year.Öğe Fishery of Sinop Coasts in the Black Sea Surveys(2018) Bat, Levent; Şahin, Fatih; Sezgin, Murat; Gönener, Sedat; Erdem, Ercan; Ozsandikci, UgurABSTRACTObjective: The current work was carried out between 2013-2014 during the fishing periods to evaluate certain fish aggloremations within 3 miles of the coastal zone. Therefore, some basic characteristics of fish populations along the Inceburun coast of the Sinop province of the Black Sea were examined.Materials and Methods: Data was collected from 5 trawl operations in the Sinop-Inceburun Region of the Black Sea at depths of 20 to 39 meters at 5 different locations. Biometric measurements of each species was made. A literature searchwas performed to gather information about the status of threatened fish species found in the region. The length-weight parameters of 4 commercial fish species were estimated. Results: During the fishing season between 1st September 2013 and 15th April 2014 different fish species were captured depending on the season and climate. In these surveys, 16 teleost species from 15 families, 2 elasmobranch species from2 families and 2 species of invertebrates were recorded from 5 different stations. In these surveys random samples of red mullet, bluefish, horse mackerel, turbot etc. were collected from 5 different stations. The total mean CPUA was estimated at425.30 kg/km2.Conclusion: The Black Sea areas including those around the Sinop coast have an important effect on the entire production of sea fish of the Turkish fishery. In addition, Sinop fisheries generate significant fishery production supporting logistics and employment. In the Sinop peninsula, there is an increasing trend towards the production of commercial species of the Black Sea.Öğe Heavy Metal Concentrations in Ten Species of Fishes Caught in Sinop(2012) Bat, Levent; Sezgin, Murat; Üstün, Funda; Şahin, FatihMevcut bu çalışmada 2010 yılı avcılık sezonunda Karadeniz'in Sinop kıyılarından örneklenen on balık türünün (Trachurus mediterraneus, Sprattus sprattus sprattus, Mullus surmelatus, Sarda sarda, Mugil cephalus, Scorpaena porcus, Sparus aurata, Umbrina cirrosa, Spicara maena ve Solea solea) sırt kas dokularındaki ağır metal (çinko, bakır, kurşun ve kadmiyum) konsantrasyonları belirlenmiştir. Kadmiyum tüm balık örneklerinde en düşük değerde bulunurken bunu kurşun izlemiştir. Çalışma sonuçları diğer çalışmalarla karşılaştırılarak tartışılmıştır.Öğe Heavy Metal Concentrations in Ten Species of Fishes Caught in Sinop Coastal Waters of the Black Sea, Turkey(Turkish Journal of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences, 2012) Bat, Levent; Sezgin, Murat; Üstün, Funda; Şahin, FatihIn the present study , the heavy metal concentrations (zinc, copper, cadmium and lead) have been measured in dorsal muscle tissue of ten species ( Trachurus mediterraneus , Sprattus sprattus sprattus , Mullus surmelatus , Sarda sarda , Mugil cephalus , Scorpaena porcus , Sparus aurat a , Umbrina cirrosa , Spicara maena and Solea solea ) from Sinop coast of the Black Sea, Turkey during fish season in 2010 . Significant differences in metal concentrations were found between the species (P<0.05). In general, it was found that the levels of he avy metals studied were lower than the maximum permissible limit of the food regulations of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAFF), the Turkish Food Codex and Commission Regulation (EC). Cd showed the lowest concentrations in all fish sampl es followed by Pb. The results of the present study were compared with the other studies and discussed.Öğe HEAVY METALS IN EDIBLE TISSUES OF BENTHIC ORGANISMS FROM SAMSUN COASTS, SOUTH BLACK SEA, TURKEY AND THEIR POTENTIAL RISK TO HUMAN HEALTH(2016) Bat, Levent; Arıcı, Elif; Sezgin, Murat; Şahin, FatihThe present study was aim to determine the concentrations of copper, cobalt, lead, zinc, cadmium, manganese, nickel and iron in the edible tissues of Liocarcinus depurator (decapoda), Rapana venosa (gastropoda) and Mytilus galloprovincilais (mollusca) collected from Samsun coasts of the Black Sea, Turkey in 2010. These biomonitor species are major food sources of benthic ecosystem. Exposing to heavy metals at higher concentrations might be toxic to demersal fish species and also humans. The concentrations of the metals were carried out using Flame (UNICAM 929). Metal concentrations in L. depurator, R. venosa and M. galloprovincilais decrease in the order: Fe > Zn > Mn > Cu > Ni > Pb > Co > Cd; Fe > Zn > Cu > Pb > Mn > Cd > Ni and Fe > Zn > Cu > Pb > Mn > Co > Ni > Cd, respectively. The results showed that the Fe and Zn concentrations were the highest in edible tissues of the three benthic organisms, respectively. Mn was higher in the edible tissues of L. depurator than those in other species, while R. venosa and M. galloprovincilais shows more of Cu and Pb levels. The estimates of EWI and EDI indicated no health risk as values are lower than the allowed tolerable levels cited by internationals committees. Based on the above results of this study, metal accumulation in the biomonitor demersal species study did not exceed the permissible limits set for heavy metals by FAO/WHO.Öğe Karadeniz hamsi balıkçılığı stok dağılımı. besin kondisyonu ve çevresel etkilere tepkisi(2012) Kaya, Yalçın; Yardım, Öztekin; Sezgin, Murat; Seyhan, Kadır; Şahin, Fatih; Bat, Levent[No abstract available]Öğe Karadeniz'in Sinop bölgesinin alt besin tabakalarının dinamik ve zaman serileri(2005) Bırcan, Recep; Bat, Levent; Kıdeys, Ahmet Erkan; Satılmış, Hasan Hüseyin; Üstün, Funda; Şahin, Fatih; Birinci Özdemir, ZekiyeSon çeyrek yüzyılda, özellikle Kuzeybatısındaki büyük nehirlerin taşıdığı besin tuzları (nitrat ve fosfat) konsantrasyonunun artması sonucu, Karadeniz ekosistemi çok köklü değişimlere uğramıştır. A total of 296 phytoplankton species and one subspecies belonging to 12 classes were identified from samples collected during the five seasonal cruises. The highest diversity was observed in the summer of 2015, with 204 species recorded, while the lowest was 137 species in the summer of 2016. Dinoflagellates dominated the species composition, accounting for 51% of the species, followed by diatoms (44%), and other groups (5%). At the genus level, Chaetoceros, Thalassiosira, Bacteriastrum, and Coscinodiscus were the most dominant diatom genus, whereas Protoperidinium, Tripos, Dinophysis, Oxytoxum, and Prorocentrum were dominant among dinoflagellates. Amphisolenia schauinslandii Lemmermann 1899 and Ceratoperidinium margalefii A.R. Loeblich III 1980 were recorded for the first time along the Turkish coast of the Aegean Sea. This study provides a comprehensive assessment of the phytoplankton taxonomic diversity in the region from to 2014-2016.Öğe Risk assessment of elements in muscle of two biomonitored fish species from the southern Black Sea(Elsevier, 2023) Bat, Levent; Öztekin, Ayşah; Öztürk, Dilara Kaya; Arıcı, Elif; Şahin, Fatih; Hasançavuşoğlu, ZeynepTrace elements (Cd, Hg, Pb, Cu, Zn, and Fe) concentrations in the muscle of Mullus barbatus (red mullet) and Merlangius merlangus (whiting) were measured by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry from the southern Black Sea. Fe showed the highest amount in edible tissues of both fish species followed by Zn and Cu. The lowest element measured was Cd, followed by Hg and Pb. Element amounts in edible tissues were compared with national and international permissible limits and were within the permissible safety levels for human consumption. The risk assessment, related to the consumption of red mullet and whiting, was implemented, considering the concentrations of six metals, the estimated weekly intake (EWI), the provisional tolerable weekly intake (PTWI), the target hazard quotient (THQ), hazard index (HI), and risk index (RI). The HI values for both red mullet and whiting were found to be less than one, indicating that eating these fish poses no health risk. Moreover, RI due to Pb exposure through fish consumption may also have no chance of contracting cancer in the future. © 2024 Elsevier Ltd.
