Öğe The effect of social support on anxiety, depression, stress and quality of life in obesity surgery Quality of life in obesity surgery(Bayrakol Medical Publisher, 2023) Ozyer, Yasemin; Gumustekin, Kubra; Yildirim, KadirAim: Determining the effect of social support on anxiety, depression, stress and quality of life in patients undergoing bariatric surgery is important for the health of individuals. This study was conducted to determine the effect of social support on anxiety, depression, stress and quality of life after bariatric surgery. Material and Methods: This retrospective study included 155 patients who underwent bariatric surgery. Data were collected using the Introductory Information Form, Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS), Depression, Anxiety, Stress Scale-21 (DASS-21), SF 12 Short Form of Quality- of- Life Scale. Results: The mean total score of depression was 6.75 +/- 5.76, the mean total score of anxiety was 6.90 +/- 5.38, the mean total score of stress was 6.72 +/- 5.91, the mean total score of the MSPSS was 58.30 +/- 22.54, the mean total score of Physical Component Summary Score (PCSS) was 44.52 +/- 8.75, and the mean total score of Mental Component Summary Score (MCSS) was 49.95 +/- 8.35. Discussion: There was a difference between the mean subscale scores of stress and a special person according to gender, between the total MSPSS scores and PCSS -12 subscale scores of the patients according to marital status, and between the mean scores of the PCSS -12 and MCSS-12 subscale scores of the individuals according to having a chronic disease, reflecting the quality of life. In improving the quality of life of patients undergoing bariatric surgery, it is important to understand the social support, physical and mental experiences of the patients in this process and to determine their quality-of -life levels.Öğe The evaluation of ENA-78 and fibrinogen levels for the differential diagnosis of familial Mediterranean fever and acute appendicitis(Walter De Gruyter Gmbh, 2019) Guzel, Murat; Aktimur, Recep; Yildirim, Kadir; Aktimur, Sude Hatun; Taskin, Mehmet Hakan; Demir, Mehmet Cihat; Demirag, Mehmet DeryaBackground: Familial Mediterranean fever (FMF) is a disorder mainly present in the Mediterranean region, characterized by abdominal attacks that mimic acute peritonitis. Therefore, FMF might be confused with other conditions presenting with acute abdominal pain, particularly acute appendicitis (AA). We aimed to evaluate whether epithelial- derived neutrophil-activating peptide-78 (ENA-78) and fibrinogen levels and white blood cell (WBC) counts could be used as potential markers in the differential diagnosis of acute FMF attacks and AA. Methods: The study involved three groups: patients with AA who underwent surgery (group 1, n = 30), patients with FMF attacks (group 2, n = 30), and patients with FMF who were attack-free (n = 30, controls), which included patients who were diagnosed as having FMF previously Results: Significant differences were detected in the ENA-78 and fibrinogen levels between group 1 and group 2. No significant difference was found in the WBC count between group 1 and group 2. It was concluded that the WBC count was more sensitive (66%) for group 1, and fibrinogen showed higher sensitivity (86%) and specificity (96%) for group 2 compared with the other parameters. Conclusions: We suggest that AA can be distinguished in patients with signs of peritonitis who were diagnosed as having FMF previously with the use of ENA-78 and fibrinogen levels; fibrinogen and ENA-78 might be helpful in discriminating between FMF attacks and AA.
