Öğe A Morphometric Approach to the Comparative Morphology of Aedeagus and Genital Plate Shapes in Two Cercopis Species (Hemiptera, Auchenorrhyncha, Cercopidae)(Institute of Biodiversity and Ecosystem Research - Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, 2026) Tanyeri, Rukiye; Kaya, Alaettin; Selçuk, Ahmet Yesari; Kefelioğlu, Haluk; Zeybekoğlu, ÜnalThe species of the genus Cercopis Fabricius, 1775 are morphologically similar, and there are difficulties in identifying them due to the inadequacy of diagnostic keys and the colour and pattern variations. For this reason, it can be challenging to distinguish the species without carefully dissecting and examining the male genitalia. In the present study, we compared the morphology of the aedeagus and the genital plates of two Cercopis species using geometric morphometrics (GM). We investigated the size and shape of the aedeagus and genital plates of C. intermedia Kirschbaum, 1868 and C. vulnerata Rossi, 1807 to evaluate whether these structures could serve as useful tools for species differentiation. The centroid size of aedeagus was significantly different between species (p = 0.01), but genital plate size was not (p = 0.8). Both aedeagus and genital plate shape were significantly different between species, based on Procrustes ANOVA and Pillai trace (MANOVA) p value. The results of discriminant function analysis of aedeagus and genital plate indicate that species are clearly discriminated. The parametric p value of T2 and permutation p value of T2 and procrustes distances show that the differences were significant. © 2026, Institute of Biodiversity and Ecosystem Research - Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. Materials were collected by a sweeping net and a hand aspirator on the plants during daytime. Two species were found distributed in this area; Aphrodes bicinctus (Schrank, 1776), Aphrodes diminuta Ribaut, 1952. A. diminuta is a new record for the Cicadellidae fauna of Türkiye. The distribution of the species both in Türkiye and the world, the photograps of aedeagus and the coordinates of the specimen’s were given. In order to show the differences in aedeagus, photographs and measurements of the Aphrodes makarovi have also been added.Öğe Color/ Pattern Variation of Cercopis vulnerata Rossi, 1807 (Auchenorrhyncha: Cercopidae) Populations of Northwestern Turkey(2020) Tanyeri, Rukiye; Zeybekoğlu, ÜnaşThis study was carried out to examine color/pattern variation in some C. vulnerata populations in northwestern of Turkey. Three different phenotypes were recognized according to wing color/pattern, two of which are C. vulnerata var. typica and C. vulnerata var. helvetica. The third phenotype has a different pattern from all known variants of this species. The data about the color/pattern variation of C. vulnerata were examined for the first time in Turkey with this study. Besides color/pattern differences, size differences were examined. The samples were classified according to their color/pattern differences and also the total length of the individuals were measured. In order to assure whether the differences are statistically significant among the variants and between sexes, One-Way ANOVA and independent t-test were used. Differences in body size among all variants were significant (P <0.01). The populations of C. vulnerata var. helvetica are overwhelmed in the region. In this variant, it was also found that there was a sexual dimorphism in size, and male individuals were larger than females. This feature was significant (♀♀ n = 50, ♂♂ n = 50, P <0.01). In the other variants, no significant difference was found between the sexes.Öğe Contributions of Aphrophoridae (Hemiptera: Cicadomorpha) fauna of Sinop, Kastamonu and Black Sea Region of Turkiye(Kahramanmaras Sutcu Imam Univ Rektorlugu, 2024) Tanyeri, Rukiye; Zeybekoglu, UnalIn this study, Aphrophoridae (Hemiptera:) specimens collected from evaluated. Overall, 27 species belonging to 7 subfamilies were identified from the study area. Number of specimens, localities and distribution of species in Turkey are given. Of the identified species, 11 are the first records for the local fauna of Sinop and 5 for the Black Sea Region of Turkey.Öğe Discrimination of the three Aphrophora species: Linear morphometric and 2D-geometric morphometric approach(Springer, 2025) Tanyeri, Rukiye; Kaya, Alaettin; Selcuk, Ahmet Yesari; Kefelioglu, Haluk; Zeybekoglu, UnalIn the present study, we compared three Aphrophora species using both linear and geometric morphometrics. According to the One-way ANOVA test, it was significantly indicated that the average rates of the linear measurements of the morphological characters in Aphrophora alni, Aphrophora geruzei, and Aphrophora salicina are different from each other. The jackknife rate in each species is more than 95%. Although the average measurements of the linear measurements show significant differences from each other, the minimum-maximum ranges of all characters were seen to overlap among the species. However, in geometric morphometric analyses, Procrustes ANOVA showed that whole body, head, pronotum, mesonotum size (as centroid size, CS) and shape differed significantly among the species. The species A. alni, A. salicina and A. geruzei differ from each other in canonical variates analysis and discriminant function analysis. Cross-validation rates among the three species were higher than 70%. The lowest cross-validation rate was indicated in the mesonotum. As a result of the the CS analysis, sexual differences for the complete body, significant differences were indicated for each of the species. However, in terms of shape, sexual dimorphism was only found in A. salicina for shape. In all three species, female individuals were larger in centroid size than male individuals. The geometric morphometric method is considered as an effective method for identifying new species in entomological studies. Aphrophora geruzei, identified as a new species from T & uuml;rkiye based on morphological data, was distinguished from the other two commonly seen Aphrophora species in T & uuml;rkiye by differences in the dorsal views of pronotum, mesonotum, and head, supported by geometric morphometric analysis.Öğe Evalution of Cercopidae (Hemiptera: Auchenorrhyncha: Cicadomorpha) Species Distributed in Sinop and Kastamonu (Turkey) in Taxonomic Terms(Kahramanmaras Sutcu Imam Univ Rektorlugu, 2022) Tanyeri, Rukiye; Zeybekoglu, UnalIn this study, specimens belonging to Cercopidae collected from Sinop and Kastamonu in 2016-2018 were evaluated. In our study, the colour phenotypes POP (populi) and TYP (typicus) are shared by all three species, whereas the phenotypes MEL (melanocephalus), PRA (praeustus) and LCE (leucocephalus) were found only in M. impictifrons. MAR (marginellus), FLA (flavicollis) and LOP (leucophthalmus) were found only in P. signatus, and TRI (trilineatus) and LAT (lateralis) were found only in P. spumarius. In combination with previous results, we show that P. spumarius and P. signatus share all eight common phenotypes except for LAT. The genetic basis of this polymorphism is well understood only for P. spumarius, yet the evolutionary strategies governing this phenomenon found in both sympatric and allopatric populations of the three species remain unknown. As the same visible elytral colour/pattern morphs occur in all three species, it will be interesting to investigate the genetic bases of these polymorphisms with further laboratory crossbreeding experiments.Öğe Some additional faunistic records on the family Membracidae (Hemiptera: Auchenorrhyncha: Cicadomorpha) in Turkey(2022) Tanyeri, Rukiye; Zeybekoğlu, ÜnaşIn this study, specimens of Membracidae (Hemiptera: Cicadormorpha) collected from Sinop (Turkey) and its surroundings in 2016-2018 were evaluated. 3 species; Centrotus cornutus (Linnaeus, 1758), Gargara genistae (Fabricius, 1775), Stictocephala bisonia Kopp et Yonke, 1977 were identified from the study area.
