Öğe A new species of Buthus Leach, 1815 from Cyprus (Scorpiones, Buthidae)(ZooKeys, 2011) Yağmur, Ersen Aydın; Koç, Halil; Lourenço, Wilson R.During the last decade, several contributions to the genus Buthus Leach, 1815 (family Buthidae) and especially to the ‘Buthus occitanus’ species complex were proposed. These contributions led to the definition of several species, previously considered only as subspecies or varieties, and also to the description of new species. In the present study, the questionable presence of the genus Buthus in the Cyprus is rediscussed and a new species Buthus kunti sp. n. is described.Öğe A Study on Venom Proteins of Iurus dufoureius asiaticus Birula, 1903 (Scorpiones: Iuridae)(Türkiye Parazitoloji Dergisi, 2006) Alpagut Keskin, Nurşen; Koç, HalilThe scorpion Iurus dufoureius asiaticus (Birula 1903) which is the largest scorpion in Europe and Turkey belongs to the family Iuridae and is endemic in Turkey. No data has been found about the venom components of I. d. asiaticus. In this study, the venom extract obtained from I. d. asiaticus specimens collected from Aydın were analyzed using the Tris tricine SDS-PAGE method. A total of 28 protein fractions or fraction groups were detected in the range of 6.5-205 kDa.Öğe Antimicrobial Activity of Hemolymph and Venom Obtained from Some Scorpion Species(2020) Koç, Halil; Avsar, Cumhur; Bayrakcı, YusufThe aim of this study was to determine the antibacterial and antifungal activities of hemolymph and venom obtained fromsome scorpion species. Venom samples were obtained by electrical stimulation method from five different scorpionspecies. Again, hemolymph fluids were obtained from five different scorpion species. Antimicrobial activities of hemolymphand venom diluted 1:1 with sterile saline were tested against a total of 10 microorganisms including seven bacteria andthree yeasts using disc diffusion method. Venom samples of Protoiurus kraepelini s howed i nhibition z ones o f 9 -20 m mon all microorganisms tested. Venom from this species has the highest antibacterial activity against Bacillus subtilis. Thevenom samples of Aegaeobuthus gibbosus were effective (7-12 mm) on all microorganisms except Enterococcus faecalisand Micrococcus luteus. In addition, it was found that venoms obtained from Androctonus crassicauda, Hottentotta saulcyiand Leiurus abdullahbayrami have different levels of antibacterial effect but no antifungal effect against Candida species.Scorpion hemolymphs have been shown to have similar effects against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Besides, the obtained hemolymphs have been found to have low effect (7-9 mm) on microorganisms.Öğe Dağmarmara (Turgutlu-Manisa) Yöresinde Dağılış Gösteren Mesobuthus gibbosus (Scorpiones: Buthidae)`un Yüzey Aktivitesinin Çukur Tuzaklarla Belirlenmesi(Ekoloji, 2007) Koç, Halil; Yağmur, Ersen AydınÇalışma Dağmarmara'da yüksekliği 600-1000 m arasında değişen çam, meşe, kestane, yanmış orman ve mera olmak üzere beş farklı biyotopta toprak içine yerleştirilen etilen glikollü tuzaklarla 2003 Mayıs-Ekim aylarında gerçekleştirilmiştir. Toplam 27 örnek tuzak kurulan alanlardan sadece yanmış orman ve meşe biyotoplarından elde edilmiştir. Tuzağa düşen erkek bireylerin sayısı dişilerden fazla olduğu (Erkek/Dişi= 19/8), dişilerin aktifliğinin erkeklere göre yıl içinde daha erken aylarda başladığı ve ağustos ayında ise her iki eşeyin de aktifliğinin en üst seviyede olduğu tesbit edilmiştir (Yakalanma sıklığı erkekte %18,5, dişide %33,3, toplam %51,8).Öğe Description of a new species of Leiurus Ehrenberg, 1828 (Scorpiones: Buthidae) from Southeastern Turkey(Euscorpius, 2009) Yağmur, Ersen Aydın; Koç, Halil; Kunt, Kadir BoğaçLeiurus abdullahbayrami sp. nov. is described from Southeastern Turkey and compared with other species of the genus, in particular with L. quinquestriatus, which was previously misidentified from Turkey. The new species is readily distinguished from other members of the genus by pedipalp chela and metasomal segments that are distinctly shorter than in L. quinquestriatus; metasomal segment V has large and rounded lobes; trichobothrium db on the fixed finger of pedipalp is located between trichobothria est and esb (in L. quinquestriatus it is located between et and est). All known Turkish populations of Leiurus were examined and found to represent the new species.Öğe Dilek Yarımadası Milli Parkı (Söke-Kuşadası, Aydın) Akrep (Scorpiones) Faunası(Ekoloji, 2007) Koç, Halil; Yağmur, Ersen AydınBu araştırma, Dilek Yarımadası Milli Parkı'nın akrep faunasını saptamak amacıyla 2004-2005 yılları arasında yarımadaya düzenlenen araştırma gezileri sırasında, dört lokaliteden elde edilen toplam 63 akrep örneği incelenmiş ve üç familyaya bağlı üç türün yarımadada yayılış gösterdiği saptanmıştır. Belirlenen türler Buthidae familyasından Mesobuthus gibbosus, Euscorpiidae familyasından Euscorpius sp. "carpathicus complex" ve Iuridae familyasından Iurus dufoureius asiaticus'tur. Bildirilen türler Dilek Yarımadası için ilk kayıtlardır.Öğe Distribution of Hottentotta saulcyi (Simon, 1880) (Scorpiones: Buthidae) in Turkey(Euscorpius, 2008) Yağmur, Ersen Aydın; Koç, Halil; Yalçın, MehmetDistribution of Hottentotta saulcyi (Simon, 1880) (Scorpiones: Buthidae) in Turkey is investigated, and new distributional records are given. Formerly, this species was known only from Mardin Province; here, it is recorded for the first time from Batman, Şırnak, and Hakkâri Provinces.Öğe New record of Gylippus (Paragylippus) monoceros Werner, 1905 (Solifugae: Gylippidae) in Western Anatolia, Turkey(Biharean Biologist, 2011) Koç, HalilThe gylippid solpugid Gylippus (Paragylippus) monoceros Werner, 1905 is recorded for the first time from Bozdağ Mountain, western Turkey, where it was found at an elevation of 2115 m. This record extends the distribution range of G. monoceros to 650 km west to previously known records from Turkey. It represents the westernmost distribution record for the species.Öğe The case history of a toxic sting of a Leiurus abdullahbayrami scorpion in Turkey(Arachnologische Gesellschaft e.V., 2016) Seiter, Michael; Koç, Halil; Ullrich, Alexander; Yağmur, Ersen AydınScorpion stings are very common in Turkey. Nevertheless, they are not well documented in the literature and were never reported for the recently described scorpion species Leiurus abdullahbayrami Yağmur, Koç & Kunt, 2009. Here, we report a case in which a 30-year-old male was stung by a L. abdullahbayrami scorpion in the field. He was directly brought to the emergency department of the local hospital. The symptomatic process was observed and documented. In this case, no antivenom was necessary; we hypothesize that the scorpion has used most of its venom in a previous incident (explained in further detail below) and was therefore not able to inject a normal dosage. © 2016, Arachnologische Gesellschaft e.V.
