Öğe Nursing Professional Pride Scale: Turkish adaptation and psychometric properties(Wiley, 2022) Aydin, Adeviye; Erbas, Atiye; Kaya, YunusPurpose This study established the Turkish validity and reliability of the Nursing Professional Pride Scale (NPPS). Design and Methods The study was a descriptive and cross-sectional conducted in Turkey. The sample consisted of 301 nurses with at least one year of work experience. Data were collected online between August and September 2020 and analyzed using the SPSS 25.0 and LISREL 8.80. Confirmatory factor analysis, linguistic and content validity, and reliability analyses were performed. Findings The Turkish version of the Nursing Professional Pride Scale (NPPS-TR) had a content validity index of 0.95 and Cronbach's alpha of 0.89 and a five-factor structure with acceptable psychometric properties (chi(2)/df = 2.85, RMSEA = 0.079, CFI = 0.92, SRMR = 0.08). Practice implications The NPPS-TR is a valid and reliable measure of professional pride in Turkish nurses.Öğe Post-Traumatic Growth Experiences of Individuals Having Completed Treatment For Coronavirus: A Qualitative Study(Cyprus Mental Health Inst, 2022) Aydin, Adeviye; Kaya, YunusIn this study, it is aimed that the experiences of post-traumatic growth in individuals treated for coronavirus (COVID-19) are examined. In this research, in-depth individual interviews were carried out with those over the age of 18 years old who had been diagnosed and completed treatment for COVID 19 and agreed to participate to the research. The research was conducted with 16 individuals (22-45 years) who met the research criteria. A phenomenological qualitative research method was used for this study. The data was gathered over the internet-based teleconferencing programs (Zoom, Google Meeting, Skype, etc.) in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19. The thematic analysis method was used in the data analysis. In consequence of the qualitative data analysis, two categories were obtained as Effects of COVID-19 and Post Traumatic Growth. In the category of the effects of COVID-19, three themes and five subordinate themes were established, and in the category of post-traumatic growth, two themes and eight subordinate themes were established. As a result of the research, it was established that the perspectives of individuals who experienced this sickness on life and their self-perception were positively developed, their relationships were strengthened, and the support resources surrounding them positively affected them during the period. The research presents significant experiences with regard to planning and implementing interventions aimed at the factors that promote psychological growth in COVID-19 patients.Öğe The Effect of an Emotion Recognition and Expression Program on the Alexithymia, Emotion Expression Skills and Positive and Negative Symptoms of Patients with Schizophrenia in a Community Mental Health Center(Taylor & Francis Inc, 2024) Aydin, Adeviye; Ozcan, Berna Ersoy; Kaya, YunusThis study aimed to examine the effect of an emotion recognition and expression program (EREP) on the alexithymia, emotion expression skills and positive and negative symptoms of patients with schizophrenia. The study had a non-randomized, quasi-experimental design including a pretest, post-test, and follow-up test. It was conducted with 36 patients with schizophrenia (n = 18 intervention group, n = 18 control group) who regularly visited a Community Mental Health Center (CMHC) in Turkiye and participated voluntarily. The EREP was applied to the intervention group for eight weeks. Personal Information Form, Emotion Expression Scale (EES), Toronto Alexithymia Scale (TAS), and Positive Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS) were applied to all participants in the pretest, post-test, and follow-up test. The follow-up test was applied one month after the end of the sessions. Number, percentage, chi-square test, and repeated measures analysis of variance were used for data evaluation. In the total alexithymia score, there was a significant difference in the group interaction by time in the intervention group compared to the control group. In terms of total alexithymia score, the post-test and follow-up test mean scores of the intervention group were lower than the control group (p < 0.05; eta 2 = 0.122). There was a significant time*group interaction in the positive emotion subscale of the EES (p < 0.05; eta 2 = 0.121). The findings of our study indicated that the EREP had a positive effect on the alexithymia scores of patients with schizophrenia. We found that the EREP used in our study contributed to the reduction of alexithymia levels in patients with schizophrenia.Öğe The Effect of Holistic Nursing Competence on Work Engagement, Self-Reflection and Insight in Nurses(Sage Publications Inc, 2022) Aydin, Adeviye; Kaya, Yunus; Erbas, AtiyeThis study aimed to examine the effects of holistic nursing competence on work engagement, self-reflection and insight in nurses. This descriptive and cross-sectional study was conducted with 309 nurses working in Turkey. Data were collected using the Descriptive Information Form, Holistic Nursing Competence Scale (HNCS), Utrecht Work Engagement Scale (UWES), and Self-Reflection and Insight Scale (SRIS). Pearson correlation analysis and multiple linear regression analysis were used to analyze the data. We found that the HNCS had a moderate positive relationship (r=0.411, p<0.05) with the UWES, and a weak positive relationship (r = 0.324, p <0.05) with the SRIS. In the model established by multiple regression analysis, the effect of the HNCS, age, marital status, position, and performing the profession willingly on work engagement explained 33.7% of the variance. In another established model, the effect of the HNCS, gender, and having children on self-reflection and insight explained 11.5% of the variance. Our findings revealed the effect of holistic competence on nurses' positive attitudes about their work engagement and self-reflection in practice. We recommended developing awareness-based programs for nurses to increase their holistic nursing competence.Öğe The Mediating Role of Early Maladaptive Schemas in the Relationship Between Attachment and Mental Health Symptoms of University Students(Springer/Plenum Publishers, 2021) Kaya, Yunus; Aydin, AdeviyeThe aim of the present study was to determine the effect of early maladaptive schemas on the relationship between attachment and mental health symptoms of university students. The study was conducted with 413 students studying in two different universities in Turkey. Data were collected using a Descriptive Information Form, Brief Symptom Inventory, Young Schema Questionnaire and Inventory of Parent Attachment. The obtained data were evaluated by constructing a structural equation model using the AMOS 23 V software. In the present study, it was found that insecure attachment to mothers and disconnection/rejection schema area exert a direct significant positive effect on depression and anxiety symptoms. The disconnection/rejection and impaired autonomy schema areas were observed to significantly and positively mediate insecure attachment to parents in explaining depression and anxiety symptoms. In line with these results, it was suggested that for individuals to establish trust-based relationships and maintain their mental health, replacing maladaptive schemas with realistic beliefs was important in terms of preventing mental illnesses from occurring, as the replacement of these schemas positively affected the mental well-being of university students.
