Meeting the needs of the family members besides the needs of the pediatric patient will improve the quality of the care in the nursing services. Objective: The study is conducted with the objective of determining the needs of the families that have patients in the pediatric intensive care unit. Material - Method: The universe of this cross-sectional study was composed of the families of patients that were in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit of Samsun Ondokuz Mayis University Research and Application Hospital on July 01, 2009-November 01, 2009. 200 patient relatives, who will represent 80% of the number of patients that stayed in hospital for the period of three months, were taken into the scope of the study. In data collection, family member description form and Scale for Determining Family Members' Needs were used. In the evaluation of the data, the data were analyzed in SPSS 10.0 package program and t test and variance analysis were conducted with descriptive statistics. Result: When the first 3 important needs that the families who have patients in the intense care unit perceive and score averages were analyzed, being sure that the best care is given to their patients (3.99) takes the first place, receiving honest answers to their questions (3.96) takes the second place and receiving information about the state of the patient at least once a day (3.95) takes the third place. Insufficient notification of family members highlights the points about information need and these needs indicate the anxiety of patients. It was seen that gender, age, degree of relationship and the time spent in the intensive care unit don't affect the need score average of the family members. Moreover, it was determined that the need score averages of the family members are significantly different according to the educational backgrounds and intensive care units (p<0.05). Conclusion: It was determined that seven out of the ten needs perceived as important by family members are information related needs and the remaining three are trust related needs. Intensive care nurses shall know the needs of the families and shall be able to meet them according to the order of priority. Such an approach will support both the patient and family in dealing with the disease.Öğe Determining the needs of the families that have a patient i̇n the pediatric intensive care unit and analyzing characteristics of these families(2012) Altay, Birsen; Gonener, Demet; Zengin, Nurse Seher; Ozkaptan, Bilge BalIntroduction: In line with the view that accepts the patient and the family as a whole; good care of the families shall be taken throughout the recovery period. The study group included children attending to Sinop Atatiirk Primary School, Parents of hospitalized or outpatient children in Sinop Government Hospital and Sinop SSK Hospital and parents and children hospitalized at Samsun SSK Regional Hospital and Samsun Birth and Children Hospital who are determined by simple random sampling method. Within the study group there are 60 children and 239 parents. Data are obtained by application of Resources of Anxiety Causing Thoughts (PACT), Back Anxiety Inventory (BAT), State-Trade Anxiety Inventory (STAI), Family Info Form. Alpha constant of Parent Anxiety Resources Scale is found out as 0.94. The corresponding standard deviations of the average points which parents in the case group received from Anxiety Resources are found to be high before education and to be low after education, Consequently reliability and validity of Parent Anxiety Resources Scale is confirmed. It is determined that increase in the anxiety of parents whose school age children are hospitalized directly increases the anxiety of their children. It is proved that education given by nurses to the parents decreases the anxiety of parents which in turn decreases the anxiety of their children. p<0.001Öğe The Development Of Anxiety Resources Scale Of School Age Children With Enuresis(Pera Yayincilik Hizmetleri, 2010) Gov, Pinar; Gonener, DemetThe investigation was planned to develop a scale for define anxiety resources of which school age children with enuresis and to make reliability validity analysis. The study was performed in *GKPS and **GUSRH after taking written and oral informed consent, between the dates March September 2008, The sample of study was selected by using simple random sampling technique from GKPS and GUSRH. 120 school age children with enuresis and 200 healty children joined the study. As a tool to collect data, the scale of anxiety resources of school age children with enuresis and a question name developed by the researcher conscious were used, To assess the data obtained from the study, SPSS 15.0 program was used for statistical analysis. To assess the investigation data, besides defintive statistical methods (average, standard deviation), Oneway Anova and student t test were used. The questions at the scale developed were classified via factor analysis method. To determine reliability and validity of the scale, Spearmans Correlation Analysis, Cronbach Analysis, Kappa Adaptation Measurement and Factor Analysis were used. In this study, It was determined that 52.5% of participant children with enuresis were men, 76.7% of them had a problem with night wetting (Enurezis Nokturna), 59.2% of the children have had other diseases enuresis together with enuresis. Expression of To think I could not be a successful student In the scale was found tobe the most worrying statement, The total internal consistency coefficient Cronbach's a of the scale was found to be 96. Explained variance of the factors in the scale was calculated as 69.17%. Results were evaluated by accepting confidence interval 95%, significance level as p < 0.05. Reliability and validity alpha coefficient of the scale was evaluated as 0,96. The variance indicated by the factors which take place in the scale was evaluated 69,17%. The results are at 95% confidence interval and p significance value is <0.05. The findings obtained via investigation revealed that The Scale of Anxiety Resources of The School Age Children WO Enuresis is valid and confidential. So the scale could be used for such purposes.Öğe The Interaction Between The Informing Situation Of The School Age Group Children About The Hospital And Their Illness, And Their Anxiety Reasons(Pera Yayincilik Hizmetleri, 2009) Gonener, Demet; Gorak, GulayThis study was planned to assess the association between the sources causing anxiety and whether not the school-age children one informed about the hospital and their illnesses. Data were evaluated using percentage, yates correction, fisher exact, chi square(x(2)) and paired Sample t test statistics. It was seen there is no difference between the case and control groups according to age, sex, diagnosis, family structure, living area and social securities. It was shown that grade averages and standart deviations of the case group before and after education. The difference was found to be very significant.
