    Age, growth and reproduction of the striped seabream, Lithognathus mormyrus (Pisces: Sparidae), in the Beymelek Lagoon (southwestern coast of Turkey)

    Age, growth and spawning time of the striped seabream, Lithognathus mormyrus were studied in the Beymelek lagoon, southwestern coast of Turkey, between September 2003 and September 2004 in order to characterize these population parameters in comparison to specimens from populations of nearby regions. The estimated age range was up to 7 years for females and 5 years for males. The von Bertalanffy growth equation parameters were estimated as L infinity = 31.7 cm TL, K = 0.267 year(-1), t(0)= -2.728 year, R-2 = 0.99. Spawning period occurred gradually two times in a year firstly from March to June and secondly from June to September.
