Öğe An important species for Black Sea biodiversity: Some population characteristics of invasive sea vase ( Ciona intestinalis Linnaeus, 1767) distributed on the Sinop shores(Tubitak Scientific & Technological Research Council Turkey, 2024) Birinci Ozdemir, Zekiye; Aydemir Cil, Eylem; Ozdemir, Suleyman; Duyar, Hunkar AvniThis study aimed to provide a comprehensive summary of the fundamental biological and certain population characteristics of Ciona intestinalis found along the Black Sea coasts of T & uuml;rkiye. The research was conducted between September 2022 and 15th, 2023, off the Sinop coast of the Black Sea, utilizing samples collected by commercial fishing vessels in the region. A total specimens of C. intestinalis were examined during the study. The average total length, width, and weight of C. intestinalis were +/- 0.089 cm, 1.967 +/- 0.054 cm, and 2.004 +/- 0.067 g, respectively. The length-weight relationship (LWR) and length-width relationship (LWdR) of C. intestinalis were established as W = 0.3996L1.2424 (R = 0.9389), Wd = 0.5362L + 0.0237 (R = 0.8897), and W = 0.9443Wd1.0889 (R = 0.8786), respectively. This study presents, for the first time, the LWR, LWdR, and WdWR for C. intestinalis, a species of significant importance in the benthic ecosystem of the Black Sea. It is anticipated that this research will lay the groundwork for future investigations into the population dynamics and biological aspects of this species.Öğe Lenght-weight Relationships, Condition Factor Index and Meat Yield of Rapa Whelks (Rapana venosa Valenciennes, 1846) in the Yakakent Regions (Southern Blacksea)(Adem Yavuz Sonmez, 2016) Bayrakli, Baris; Ozdemir, Suleyman; Birinci Ozdemir, ZekiyeLength-Weight Relationships, Condition Indexes and Meat Yields of Rapa Whelks (Rapana venosa Valenciennes, 1846) in Yakakent (the southern Black Sea) were investigated. This study was to determine the length-weight relationships, condition indexes and meat yields of Rapana venosa in Yakakent (Samsun, Black Sea). For this aim, 431 rapa whelk specimens were sampled at monthly intervals between December 2014 and November 2015. The total length and weight of the specimens ranged from 43.52 to 109.52mm and from 15.42 to 234.53g, respectively. The length-weight equation calculated as W=0.0007 L2.7287 (r2 = 0.91). Negative allometric growth (t = 6.4432, P<0.05) was observed for rapa whelks. The condition indexes varied between 2.58-40.43 with a mean 15.74 +/- 0.26. The highest mean condition index (24.52) was recorded in January and the lowest (11.17) in July. Meat yields ranged from 9.08% to 46.27% with a mean 29.32 +/- 0.29, the highest in January (36.45%) and the lowest in September (23.30%).Öğe Seasonal Distribution of Gelatinous Macrozooplankton in the Hamsilos Bay, Southern Black Sea, Turkey(Kahramanmaras Sutcu Imam Univ Rektorlugu, 2019) Ustun, Funda; Birinci Ozdemir, ZekiyeThe present study describes the abundance and biomass distribution of gelatinous macrozooplankton in relation to physical parameters in Hamsilos Bay. Gelatinous macmzooplankton samples were collected monthly from four stations between July 2015 and June 2016 using a plankton net with a 112 mu m mesh size and a 50 cm diameter mouth opening by vertical hauls. Four gelatinous macrozooplankton species were identified: Aurelia aurita (Linnaeus, 1758); Mnemiopsis leidyi A. Agassiz, 1865: Beroe ovata Bruguiere, 1789; and, Pleurobrachia pileus (O.F. Muller. 1776). The maximum mean abundance of gelatinous macrozooplankton was recorded in August 2015 (24.58 ind. m(-2)), whereas the maximum mean biomass was recorded in April 2016 (147.79 g m(-2)) from four sampling stations. The abundance and biomass of gelatinous macrozooplankton increased in the summer and spring. M. leidyi and P. pileus were primarily responsible for the increase in total gelatinous macrozooplankton abundance in the summer, whereas A. aurita and B. ovata were primarily responsible for the increase in total abundance in the spring and autumn. The abundance and biomass of M. leidyi were positively correlated with temperature and negatively correlated with dissolved oxygen.Öğe Seasonal occurrence and distribution of gelatinous macrozooplankton of the Sinop Peninsula in the Southern Black Sea(Cahiers De Biologie Marine, 2022) Birinci Ozdemir, ZekiyeThe aim of this study was to determine the occurrence and distribution of gelatinous macrozooplankton in the southern Black Sea. The abundance and biomass of gelatinous organisms and their relationship with physical parameters were determined between March 2015 and February 2016 in the Sinop Peninsula of the southern Black Sea. Monthly samplings were conducted at six stations located in both the coastal and open sea. Gelatinous macrozooplankton was collected using vertical hauls (plankton net mouth opening 50 cm, mesh size 210 mu m). The abundance and biomass of the gelatinous macrozooplankton increased in both summer and spring; the minimum values were recorded in winter. Maximum abundance was 43.33 m(-2) (August 2015) in the open sea and 39.17 m(-2) (July 2015) in the coastal areas. The highest biomass was 282.47 g.m(-2) in coastal areas (April 2015) and 205.68 g.m(-2) in the open sea (March 2015). We determined that the gelatinous macrozooplankton in the southern Black Sea decreased from 2002 to 2008. The distribution of species differed from the values observed in previous studies. No significant difference in abundance and biomass was observed between the open and coastal stations. Temperature was the main factor correlated with gelatinous macrozooplankton blooms.
