Öğe Challenges and Technological Requirements in Landslide Disaster Search and Rescue Efforts: Türkiye Artvin Landslide Case Study(Cambridge Univ Press, 2025) Usta, Galip; Gunduz, Fatma; Atalay, Ezgi; Torpus, Kemal[No abstract available]Öğe Disaster and gender: men's experiences during and after the earthquake(Springer, 2024) Usta, Galip; Gunduz, Fatma; Atalay, EzgiThe aim of this study is to discover how men's first reflex behaviors during earthquakes and how their coping strategies were shaped after earthquakes in T & uuml;rkiye. Phenomenological design, one of the qualitative research methods, was used in the research. The data of the research were collected through a semi-structured interview form between 25.04.2023 and 15.05.2023. The study was conducted with 12 people, based on data saturation. Interviews with the participants lasted between 30 and 75 min. Four themes were created within the scope of the study. Men participate in search and rescue operations, particularly those that require physical fortitude, and in the distribution of humanitarian aid, according to the research. In this process, men felt cold-blooded and strong. It has been observed that men take more risks and put themselves at risk due to socially burdened responsibilities and their masculine characteristics. In terms of disaster risk reduction objectives and actions, the findings obtained within the framework of the difficulties encountered by men during the earthquake, coping strategies, and the impact of gender roles can be evaluated. Therefore, it is thought that investigating gender roles in disasters is important in creating disaster management policies.Öğe Evaluation of cable car accidents and rescue operations(Cambridge Univ Press, 2024) Usta, Galip; Torpus, Kemal; Gunduz, Fatma; Atalay, Ezgi[No abstract available]Öğe Evaluation of the Effect of Women's Psychological Power on Disaster Risk Perception(Cambridge Univ Press, 2025) Zeybekoglu, Fatma Gunduz; Usta, Galip; Atalay, Ezgi; Torpus, KemalObjectives In this study, we aimed to examine the effect of women's perceptions of psychological power related to gender roles on their disaster risk perceptions. Methods This cross-sectional and descriptive study was planned in a correlational design. The study was completed with 272 people who met the inclusion criteria. Data for the study were collected between February 21, 2024 and March 7, 2024. The Independent sample t test was used for the comparison of two independent groups and one way analysis of variance was used for the comparison of two or more unrelated groups. A Pearson correlation analysis was used to examine the relationship between numerical variables. Results Women who had previously experienced a disaster were found to have higher scores on the strength/advocacy, threat, anxiety, and disaster risk perception scale than those who had not. A moderate positive correlation was found between the increase in women's perceptions of psychological power and their perceptions of threat, controllability, anxiety levels, and disaster risk perceptions, while a low negative correlation was found with their perceptions of fatalism. Conclusions It was concluded that women's psychological strength affects disaster risk perception. Psychological empowerment of women is thought to be important in ensuring disaster resilience.Öğe Flood disaster experiences of elderly individuals living in the western black sea region of Türkiye: a phenomenological study(Bmc, 2025) Atalay, Ezgi; Gunduz Zeybekoglu, Fatma; Torpus, Kemal; Usta, GalipThe increase in the elderly population, the issue of flood risk management and flood preparedness stands out as an important issue that needs special attention. This study aimed to evaluate the feelings and thoughts of the elderly individuals who experienced floods in T & uuml;rkiye before, during, and after the floods, and to reveal how they were affected, their vulnerability, and coping capacities. In this regard, phenomenological design, one of the qualitative research methods, was used in the study. Purposive sampling techniques were used for this study. A semi-structured interview form, which was prepared by the researchers by reviewing the relevant literature and taking expert opinions, was used to collect the data. The data of the study were collected between September and October 2024. The study was carried out with 14 people based on data saturation. Within the scope of the study, three themes were created. These are (theme 1) elderly people's risk knowledge and their views on the preparation process, (theme 2) vulnerabilities and coping capacities of elderly individuals during disasters, and (theme 3) post-flood needs, social network relations, and lessons learned. As a result of the analysis, it was determined that elderly individuals were aware of local disaster hazards, but despite this, the elderly did not make individual disaster preparations. It was determined that elderly individuals do not have sufficient access to early warning messages before the flood disaster occurs. During the disaster, elderly individuals were trapped in water, exhibited risky behaviors, experienced fragility during the evacuation process, and suffered material and moral losses. In the post-disaster period, elderly individuals have some basic needs such as clean water, medicine, shelter, toilets, nutrition, clothing, and health care, and their neighbors and relatives provide support in meeting these needs. The results obtained from the study may contribute to increasing the flood response capacity for elderly individuals, a vulnerable group in disasters.Öğe Informing the Public on Disaster Management: Evaluation of the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD) Press Releases(Bolu Abant Izzet Baysal University, 2024) Atalay, Ezgi; Gündüz, Fatma; Aslan, Ramazan; Usta, GalipIt is aimed to evaluate the data in the press releases created by AFAD in order for the public to reach transparent and accurate information after the Kahramanmaras-centered earthquakes in Turkey. Paland & ouml;ken's topography makes it vulnerable to avalanches. Avalanches are the rapid and sudden flow of snow masses accumulated on slopes and are considered one of the natural disasters. Several avalanches have occurred on Paland & ouml;ken Mountain, leading to tragic results. In 1974, six people were buried under an avalanche and rescue teams were injured in a secondary avalanche. In subsequent years, avalanches died four people in 1975, one person in 1976, and eight people on Dragon Peak in 1977. In 2006, one tourist died in an avalanche on Paland & ouml;ken Mountain. The last avalanche disaster on Paland & ouml;ken Mountain, which occurred on December 21, 2024, resulted in the death of an athlete from the Kocaeli Judo National Team of the Turkish Olympic Preparation Center. Paland & ouml;ken, one of T & uuml;rkiye's leading winter tourism destinations, hosts international events but faces significant avalanche risks due to its topography. In order to reduce these risks, it is essential to establish avalanche early warning and monitoring systems, provide avalanche safety training for tourists and personnel, and implement infrastructure measures to reduce avalanche hazards.Öğe Kadınların Deprem Korkusunun Deprem Risk Algısına Etkisinin Belirlenmesi(2025) Atalay, Ezgi; Gündüz, FatmaKadınların deprem korkusuna karşı dayanıklılıklarının artırılması ve afet riskleri konusunda eğitilmeleri, toplumsal cinsiyet eşitliğinin teşvik edilmesi (SKH 5) ve kadın liderliğinin güçlendirilmesi afet yönetiminde önemli yaklaşımlar olarak görülmektedir. Türkiye is one of the countries where natural disasters occur frequently. In the study, the researchers aimed to observe human behavior and post-disaster services by being in the environment where the earthquake took place and to make inferences about it. The data were collected from the provinces of Malatya, Diyarbakır, Adıyaman, Kahramanmaraş and Hatay, which are the places where earthquakes centered in Kahramanmaraş occurred in Türkiye, between 07-15 February 2023 by observation technique. In collecting the data, an unstructured field study called \"participatory observation\" was carried out by using the control form created by the researchers. The data obtained from the field were coded by the researchers and the categories were reached from the codes and the themes were reached from the categories. In the study, reliability criteria were followed in the data analysis process. It was observed that efforts were carried out on issues such as providing shelter, nutrition and psychological support of search and rescue personnel, ensuring coordination between teams, strengthening communication systems, and ensuring correct information flow. It is important to ensure cooperation and coordination for the selection of appropriate personnel for search and rescue activities, the strengthening of communication systems and the effective distribution of aid.Öğe THE EFFECT OF EARTHQUAKE KNOWLEDGE AND RISK PERCEPTION ON SOCIAL SUSTAINABLE EARTHQUAKE AWARENESS(Inonu University, 2024) Gündüz, Fatma; Atalay, Ezgi; Torpus, Kemal; Usta, GalipThe aim of this study is to examine the relationship between participants' earthquake risk perception and knowledge level and sustainable earthquake awareness in terms of various variables. The study is descriptive cross-sectional research. 559 volunteer individuals participated in the study. Relationships between quantitative variables were determined with Pearson correlation analysis. Our research found that there is a significant difference between gender and earthquake risk perception. It has been determined that my disaster experience has an impact on the level of earthquake knowledge. Women were found to have lower earthquake knowledge scores than men. Women were found to have higher earthquake risk perception scores than men. Single people had higher cognitive earthquake risk perception scores than married people. It was found that the earthquake risk perception scores of the disaster survivors were higher than those of the non-survivors. More comprehensive studies may be needed to understand the interaction of factors such as gender, marital status, and disaster experience on earthquake knowledge level and risk perception. These studies can contribute to the development of more effective education and awareness strategies for the general earthquake preparedness of society.Öğe The role of community pharmacists in natural disasters: Experiences from the 2023 Türkiye earthquakes(Elsevier Ireland Ltd, 2025) Dincer, Samet; Gunduz, Fatma; Atalay, Ezgi; Usta, Galip; Goktas, Sare PeceObjective: On 6 February 2023, a series of earthquakes struck the south-eastern region of T & uuml;rkiye. The aim of this research is to identify the challenges and experiences of community pharmacists who were first-degree victims of the earthquake during and after the earthquake in providing health services. Methods: Phenomenological design, one of the qualitative research methods, was used in the study. In-depth interviews were conducted with 15 individuals who were both first-degree earthquake victims and community pharmacists. Results: Qualitative data were analyzed with the MAXQDA 2020 program and three main themes were created. It was determined that community pharmacists did not prepare despite knowing about seismic hazards. Following the disaster, a number of difficulties arose, such as drug safety issues, risky behaviors, and the physical destruction of pharmacies. It was noted that some community pharmacists could not return to normal processes on the date of the research. Conclusions: Continuing pharmacy services without interruption during disasters is of global importance. Before the disaster, training should be organized for community pharmacists on their roles in disasters, medication management, and providing health care. Community pharmacists should take part in crisis management committees and contribute to drug supply chain planning. The roles of community pharmacists in risk reduction, preparedness, response, and recovery phases should be determined, and strategic actions should be developed for pre-and post-disaster periods.Öğe TÜRKİYE'DE MEYDANA GELEN KAHRAMANMARAŞ MERKEZLİ DEPREMİN AFET KRİZ YÖNETİMİ AÇISINDAN DEĞERLENDİRİLMESİ: AFAD X (TWİTTER) ÖRNEĞİ(2025) Atalay, Ezgi; Torpus, Kemal; Usta, Galip; Tunçay, Tülay; Gündüz, FatmaBu çalışma, AFAD'ın X hesabının etkinliğini ölçmeyi ve sosyal medyanın doğru bilgi ve koordinasyon sağlamadaki rolünü belirlemeyi amaçlamaktadır.
