Öğe Different Doses of Carbohydrate Mouth Rinse Have No Effect on Exercise Performance in Resistance Trained Women(Mdpi, 2021) Karayigit, Raci; Forbes, Scott C.; Naderi, Alireza; Candow, Darren G.; Yildirim, Ulas C.; Akca, Firat; Aras, DicleCarbohydrate (CHO) mouth rinse has been shown to enhance aerobic endurance performance. However, the effects of CHO mouth rinse on muscular strength and endurance are mixed and may be dependent on dosage of CHO. The primary purpose was to examine the effects of different dosages of CHO rinse on strength (bench press 1 repetition maximum [1-RM]) and muscular endurance (40% of 1-RM repetitions to failure) in female athletes. Sixteen resistance-trained females (age: 20 +/- 1 years; height: 167 +/- 3 cm; body mass: 67 +/- 4 kg; BMI: 17 +/- 2 kg/m(2); resistance training experience: 2 +/- 1 years) completed four conditions in random order. The four conditions consisted of a mouth rinse with 25 mL solutions containing either 6% of CHO (Low dose of CHO: LCHO), 12% CHO (Moderate dose of CHO: MCHO), 18% CHO (High dose of CHO: HCHO) or water (Placebo: PLA) for 10 s prior to a bench press strength and muscular endurance test. Maximal strength (1-RM), muscular endurance (reps and total volume), heart rate (HR), ratings of perceived exertion (RPE) and glucose (GLU) were recorded each condition. There were no significant differences in strength (p = 0.95) or muscular endurance (total repetitions: p = 0.06; total volume: p = 0.20) between conditions. Similarly, HR (p = 0.69), RPE (p = 0.09) and GLU (p = 0.92) did not differ between conditions. In conclusion, various doses of CHO mouth rinse (6%, 12% and 18%) have no effect on upper body muscular strength or muscular endurance in female athletes.Öğe Effects of isolated or combined carbohydrate and caffeine supplementation on tennis training performance: single-blind randomized placebo-controlled crossover session(Frontiers Media Sa, 2025) Abdioglu, Mekki; Mor, Ahmet; Alexe, Dan Iulian; Todor, Raul Marian; Panaet, Elena Adelina; Alexe, Cristina Ioana; Akca, FiratBackground In long tennis matches, the number of unforced errors in groundstrokes increases. However, players need to maintain their successful strokes consistently in order to be successful in matches. To overcome this situation, tennis players utilize certain ergogenic supplements. In order to determine the most effective ergogenic supplement on players' performance, it is aimed to investigate the effects of caffeinated chewing gum (CAFGUM), carbohydrate gel (CHOGEL) and cho gel + cafe gum (CHOGEL + CAFGUM) on tennis players' basic strokes, countermovement jumps (CMJ), heart rate (HR), ratings of perceived exertion (RPE) and gastrointestinal discomfort in a training session.Method The study included 14 male tennis players (mean age: 15.93 +/- 0.83 years, height: 173.86 +/- 6.89 cm, and body mass: 60.64 +/- 2.58 kg) with experience in national and international tournaments. Players ingested CHOGEL (21.1 g) + CAFGUM (100 mg) or CHOGEL (21.1 g) + gum placebo (PLAGUM) or CAFGUM (100 mg) or PLAGUM before a high-intensity workout and at the end of each set.Results The CHOGEL + CAFGUM session performed better groundstrokes than the control (CON) (p = 0.001) and the PLAGUM sessions (p = 0.001). When total RPE values were considered in the training session, the CHOGEL + CAFGUM session had lower RPE scores than the CON (p = 0.010) and PLAGUM (p = 0.044) sessions. The CHOGEL + PLAGUM session had significantly lower RPE scores than the CON (p = 0.005) and PLAGUM (p = 0.005) sessions. The CAFGUM session had significantly lower RPE scores than the CON (p = 0.013). It was observed that no supplements significantly affected either HR (p = 0.188) or CMJ (p = 0.349) scores.Conclusions In conclusion, there was a significant difference on basic strokes and RPE scores between CHOGEL + CAFGUM supplementation used before and during training compared with the control session. At the same time, there was no significant performance outcomes between CHOGEL and CAFGUM sessions.Öğe Futbolcularda Plasebo Kafein: Fizyolojik Belirteçler ve Algılanan Uyku Kalitesi Üzerine Etkileri(2024) Güneşer, Ezel; Yıldırım, Ulas Can; Akca, FiratKafeinin fizyolojik ve psikolojik etkileri hususunda tüm sorular henüz yanıtlanamamıştır. Fakat sporcuların farklı fizyolojik belirteçler ve uyku kalitesine etkileri bilinmektedir. Bu çalışmada, futbolcularda aerobik kapasite ve algılanan uyku kalitesinde plasebo sakızının farklı dozları kullanıldığında oluşan değişikliklerin incelemesi amaçlanmıştır. Amatör futbol takımından 22 erkek oyuncunun (yaş:23,36 ± 5,4 yıl boy: 180,14 ± 6,9 cm; VA: 76,32 ± 10,2 kg; BKI: 23,51 ± 2,8 kg/m2) gönüllü olarak katıldığı araştırma rastgele, çapraz-döngülü, tek kör olarak planlanmıştır. 5 dakika çiğnemeleri istenilen plasebo sakızını çıkarttıktan hemen sonra futbolculara Yo-Yo Aralıklı Toparlanma Testi Seviye 1 (Yo-Yo IRT-1) uygulanmıştır. Katılımcılara her Yo-Yo IRT-1 denemesinden hemen sonra ‘’Sakız performansınızı nasıl etkiledi?’’ sorusu yöneltilmiştir. Her test gününden sonraki sabah tüm katılımcıların uykularında oluşabilecek değişikliklerin gözlenmesi için Richard-Campbell Uyku Ölçeği (RCSQ) ve Karolinska Uykululuk Ölçeği (KSS) uygulanmıştır. Aerobik kapasite ve uyku kalitesi verilerinde plasebo kullanıldığında istenilen yönde anlamlı bir farklılık görülmemiştir. Sonuç olarak, plasebo kafein amatör futbolcularda algılanan uyku kalitesinde ve aerobik kapasitede etkili olmamıştır.
