Öğe Acute toxicity of zinc, copper and lead to three species of marine organisms from Sinop Peninsula, Black Sea(Turkish Journal of Biology, 1999) Bat, Levent; Gündoğdu, Ayşe; Sezgin, Murat; Çulha, Mehmet; Gönlügür, Gamze; Akbulut, MehmetAcute toxicity tests were performed on Echinogammars olivii (Amphipoda), Sphaeroma serratum (Isopoda) and Palaemon elegans (Decapoda), from the Sinop Peninsula in the Black Sea. 96- h LC 50 values were estimated for copper, zinc and lead in these species using the static bioassay method. The LC 50 values of Cu for E. olivii, S. serratum and P. elegans were 0.25, 1.98 and 2.52 mg/l, respectively. The LC 50 values of Zn for E. olivii , S. serratum and P. elegans were 1.30, 6.12 and 12.3 mg/l, respectively. The LC 50 values of Pb for E. olivii, S. serratum and P. elegans were 0.62, 4.61 and 5.88 mg/l, respectively. The results indicated that Cu was more toxic to the species followed by Pb and Zn. E. olivii was more sensitive to the metals than S. serratum and P. elegans.Öğe Effect of temperature on the toxicity of zinc, copper and lead to the freshwater amphipod Gammarus pulex (L., 1758)(Turkish Journal of Zoology, 2000) Bat, Levent; Akbulut, Mehmet; Çulha, Mehmet; Gündoğdu, Ayşe; Satılmış, Hasan HüseyinThis study showed the effect of temperature on copper, zinc and lead toxicity to the freshwater amphipod Gammarus pulex pulex . 96-h LC 50 values were estimated for copper, zinc and lead in this species using the static bioassay method. Increase in the concentration of copper, zinc and lead decreased the survival of the animals. The LC 50 values of Cu, Zn and Pb for Gammarus pulex pulex ranged from 0.028 to 0.080, 5.2 to 12.1 and 11.2 to 23.2 mg/l, respectively. The results indicated that Cu was more toxic to the species, followed by Zn and Pb. The results were compared with those from other studies and discussed.Öğe Effects of sewage pollution the structure of the community of Ulva lactuca, Enteremorpha linza and rocky macrofauna in Dışliman of Sinop(Turkish Journal of Biology, 2001) Bat, Levent; Akbulut, Mehmet; Sezgin, Murat; Çulha, MehmetUntreated sewage and domestic wastes from the Sinop outfall enter the Dışliman region. The effect of this on the distribution of Ulva lactuca, Enteromorpha linza and benthic macrofauna and on enviromental parameters was determined. Increases in the growth of opportunistic green algae such as Ulva lactuca and Enteromorpha linza in response to increased nutrient supply in the Dışliman coastal ecosystems in Sinop are reported in the present study. The results of this study show that organic enrichment also increases, with Mytilus galloprovincialis (Mollusca), Erichthonius brasiliensis, Echinogammarus olivii and Amphitoes ramondi, Idotea baltica and Sphaeroma serratum (Crustacea) being the most abundant species.Öğe On the Occurence of Niphargus valachicus Dobreanu & Manolache, 1933 (Amphipoda, Gammaridae) in the Western Black Sea Region of Turkey(Turkish Journal of Zoology, 2001) Akbulut, Mehmet; Sezgin, Murat; Çulha, Mehmet; Bat, LeventIn this study, the characteristic features, distribution and ecology of the amphipod Niphargus valachicus E. Dobreanu & C. Manolache, 1933 sampled at Sırakaraağaçlar Stream of Sinop, flowing into the Black Sea, are given. Four taxa of Niphargus genus, freshwater Amphipoda fauna have been identified in Turkey. In addition to these, Niphargus valachicus is a new record for the Turkish freshwater fauna.Öğe Orta Karadenez' in Sinop Burnu Bölgesinin biyokimyasal dönüşüm çalışmaları(2000) Büyükhatipoğlu, Şevket; Tuğrul, Süleyman; Satılmış, Hasan Hüseyin; Kıdeys, Ahmet Erkan; Akbulut, Mehmet; Çulha, Mehmet; Bat, LeventSon çeyrek yüzyılda, özellikle kuzeybatısındaki büyük nehirlerin taşıdığı besin tuzları (nitrat ve fosfat) konsantrasyonunun artması sonucu, Karadeniz ekosistemi çok köklü değişimlere uğramıştır. Besin tuzu dengesinin bozulması sonucu meydana gelen anormal değişimler, önce fitoplankton ve daha sonra da zooplanktonun kalite ve miktarında yansıtılmıştır. Bu çalışmada, Orta Karadeniz'in Sinop Burnu açıklarındaki kuzey-güney yönünde uzanan bir hat boyunca belirlenen 2 istasyonda yaklaşık 15 gün aralıklarla su kütlesinds $O_2$, pH, sıcaklık, tuzluluk, fosfat, nitrat, silikat, klorofil-a ölçümleri ile fitoplankton ve ihtiyoplankton örneklemeleri yapılarak elde edilecek bir zaman serisi yardımıyla yörenin biyokimyasal yapısının sene boyunca değişimi incelenmiştir.Öğe Studies on Sediment Toxicity Bioassays using Chironomus thummi K., 1911 Larvae(Turkish Journal of Zoology, 2001) Bat, Levent; Akbulut, MehmetThe acute toxicity of zinc, copper and lead to freshwater dipteran Chironomus thummi larvae was evaluated by static bioassays, calculating the LC50 (lethality concentration for 50%). Mortality increased with increasing concentrations of zinc, copper and lead. The LC50s of Zn, Cu and Pb for survival were 11.2, 19.1 and 14.3 µg g-1, respectively. The results indicated that Zn had the greatest toxicity, followed by Pb and Cu. Individual weight increased with increasing Cu, Zn and Pb concentrations. The results are discussed and compared with those of other studies.Öğe The Macrobenthic Fauna of Sırakaraağaçlar Stream flowing into the Black Sea at Akliman, Sinop(Turkish Journal of Marine Sciences, 2000) Bat, Levent; Akbulut, Mehmet; Çulha, Mehmet; Sezgin, MuratIn the present study carried out between July 1997 and June 1998, samples of macrobenthic fauna were collected at Akliman (Sinop) where Sırakaraağaçlar stream flowed into the Black Sea. The physical parameters of water were measured, Sea, brackish water and fresh water species were determined, 39 in total including Mollusca, Insecta (larvae), Crustaceae, Polychaeta, Hirudinae and Turbellaria, The first. sampling station was chosen at the mouth of the Sırakaraağaçlar stream. The results show that the Mollusc Fauna was predominant in respect to species diversity, while the species belonging to Insects larvae, Crustaceae and Polychaeta Classis were in minority. The second and third stations were chosen at the inner place from the mouth of Sırakaraağaçlar stream near its spring. Insecta larvae was predominant in respect to species diversity, whereas the species belonging to Mollusca fauna, Crustaceae, Polychaeta, Hirudinae and Turbellaria Classis were in minority. Thus, the most predominant species in Sırakarağaçlar Stream were identified as euriform and found in less flowing part of the stream.
