The parasite was also found to be settled more on female and larger host fish.Öğe Digenean metacercariae parasitic in fishes in Sarıkum Lagoon Lake, Sinop, Turkish Black Sea coast: Species diversity, seasonal occurrence and histopathological effects(Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, 2019) Öztürk, Türkay; Özer, AhmetThe study aimed to identify the digenean metacercariae parasitic in fishes in the Sarıkum Lagoon Lake located at the Black Sea coast of Turkey. A total of 906 fish specimens belonging to 6 fish species (Aphanius danfordii, Neogobius melanostamus, Proterorhinus marmoratus, Gasterosteus aculeatus, Platichthys flesus and Chelon auratus) were examined monthly during a period of one year. Four digenean species recorded as encysted metacercariae were identified; these were three species belonging to Heterophyidae, i.e. Ascocotyle coleostoma, Pygidiopsis genata and Cryptocotyle concava, and one species of the family Diplostomatidae, i.e. Posthodiplostomum sp. Ascocotyle coleostoma was found to be the dominant species and detected in all examined fish species. Posthodiplostomum sp. was detected only in A. danfordii. Cryptocotyle concava was detected in N. melanostamus and P. marmoratus. Infection prevalence and intensity were calculated and discussed for each digenean species recorded as metacercariae in relation to season. The eye, heart and gill tissues of infected fish with parasites were examined histologically. The histological evaluation indicated that the histological lesions were more severe in gills. © 2019 Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. One of 25 healthy fish and 2 dead fish had infections with Enteromyxum leei. Developing plasmodia and fully developed spores were numerously observed in the intestine and gall bladder of infected fish. This finding suggests that E. leei can develop normally in this fish species. Absence of fish farms close to the sampling site suggests that the parasite was not originated from farmed fish. This is the first report of E. leei in the Black Sea.Öğe First Report of Mazocraes alosae (Herman, 1782), Pronoprymna ventricosa (Rudolphi, 1891) and Lecithaster confusus Odhner, 1905 in pontic shad Alosa immaculata Bennet, 1835 in Turkish coasts of the Black Sea(Lucrari Stiintifice-Seria Zootehnie, 2013) Özer, Ahmet; Öztürk, Türkay; Korniychuk, JuliaIn the present study, a total of 31 specimens of pontic shad, Alosa immaculata Bennet, 1835 (Pisces: Clupaeidae) caught in the Black Sea coasts near Sinop, Turkey in 2010 were investigated for their parasite fauna.
