LGBT people were contacted using snowball sampling. Data from 33 participants were collected in face-to-face in-depth interviews using the phenomenological interview technique and semi-structured questionnaires. Content analysis of the participants’ experiences of stigmatization identified three themes and four subthemes: 'being LGBT; otherness', 'pretending: lifein the closet', 'self stigmatization':'Feeling like a problem that needs to be solved'.
