The city which was ruined by the invasion began to be rebuilt during the reign of Ogedey Khan. Immigration was encouraged here. Weaving craftsmen from various regions were brought. One of the important governor of this time was Kharlhg (Harlig). Kharhg-originally an Uyghur Turk was commissioned in Herat in 1239 and continued his duty till 1259. In his time, social and agricultural activities were increased. New businesses were opened and agriculture got improved. Old irrigation channels were repaired, and new ones were built. The city enlarged in this period.
